    hi,
i just bought a a dell latitude d600, laptop and i have this bios password thing coming up. when i power it up it takes bout a min to spin up and then i get error massage"MANUFACTURING MODE: LEVEL (FF)". PRESS FN-X TO RESUME NORMAL MODE. of course pressing FN-X does not do anything the system just goes to a gray screen and tell me to enter password. when i press the enter key, it goes ahead to bootup, it is performing slower than usual, but it works, when i try to enter bios settings, i get in but can't change a din.
i have tried everything but i cant get the password removed, i called dell but they are not budging, they say i should get the original purchaser, from what i know so far, it was sold in bulk to a USA, federal institutions, and after use the guys just returned them back to dell who ripped some thing out and sold it to the lowest bidder.
i cant get a transfer certificate, and i don't live in the USA, i bought this stuff with my money and i did not steal it, the warranty is expired and right now i feel like crying, it SUCKS.
please somebody out there help me before i do somthing relly silly

Hi Some reading for you & links to the "paperclip method"

    http://www.weeklygripe.co.uk/a709.asp

Some info here about how Dells Bios Passwords stored why "normal" Bios reset tricks dont work and introducing "erase the EEPROM" the short circuit trick with paperclip.. Save yourself some time dont bother with the "if everything fails try Christophe Grenier's CmosPwd " I contacted him about my own situation and he confirmed "If your Serial number ends in "-595" or "-595B", you will not be able to use the latitude.exe or MasterPassword.exe files to recover the master password. You must solder the eeprom replacement on or use paperclip method..
