I have a real problem with derbiz which has somehow installed itself on my computer and now gives me annoying pop-ups every minute! It even asks me to dial a connection when I am on ADSL. I have read the forums on here and already ran Hijack 1.99. I have attached the log file and would like help (as I am relatively new to computing) in what to do next to get rid of this.
    Thanks.

I am not sure what you mean by "I read the forums on here" but you must run the steps in the sticky threads as given below.

Please read the announcement and sticky threads. HJT logs should only be posted when requested. Please run the steps below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
Also to get you started and to reduce the size of your HJT log. Do the following:

Also look in Add/Remove programs for Internet2 Optimizer and uninstall if found.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem, boot into normal mode and make sure you follow these directions:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Thanks for the advice on the tutorial etc. I have now run all the tests detailed in the tutorial and downloaded and run all Spyware programs (after searching for updates). The only problem was that I could not run the Free Virus Scans in Safe Mode since my ADSL modem was not recognised even with Networking Support.

Trend Micro Scan found 6 trojan viruses, which Norton missed! I could delete all but one since one was in use apparently. This file is still on my computer:

    TROJ_SMALL_APE

and resides in the following directory:

    C:\\WINDOWS\system\dupogrtjlb.exe

I cannot get rid of this file. Any ideas?

I then ran Hijack this again and have attached the logfile. Any help would be very much appreciated since Derbiz.com is still on my computer and is driving me mad with the pop-ups!!

    Cheers

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\system\dupogrtjlb.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteptl32.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Startup.exe
    O16 - DPF: {EC51659D-721F-4CBF-9CEA-5E776D89CEA9} - http://www.pacimedia.com/install/pcs_0009.exe

Also fix any of the below 4 lines that you do not recognize.
    O16 - DPF: {17D72920-7A15-11D4-921E-0080C8DA7A5E} (AimSp32 Class) - http://makeover.ivillage.co.uk/save/makeover.cab

    O16 - DPF: {91433D86-9F27-402C-B5E3-DEBDD122C339} - http://www.netvenda.com/sites/gamc17-gb/gbc17/games4.cab?fgiocv=1

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system\dupogrtjlb.exe
C:\windows\system32\eliteptl32.exe <-- also delete all other filenames beginning with elite and ending with exe in the system32 folder
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Locate the below file and rename it from Startup.exe to Startup.xxx. I do not want to delete it yet because I'm not positive on exactly what it is.
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Startup.exe

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Thanks a million!! Everything seems to be running fine now - no annoying pop-ups. That Start.exe file has gone - not sure where but I will keep an eye open. Is there anything that stops things like derbiz? This seems to be a bit of a nuisance. I am now running all the maintenance programs suggested in tutorial and will check spyware using Spybot and AdAware. Is there anything else you would suggest. I have attached the Hijack This log after I performed all those suggestions.

Thanks once again - you are a star! :D

Go back and repeat the steps for the below:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteptl32.exe

Make sure you look for ALL filenames with elite like I requested.

There is no particular tool out there that finds and fixes Derbiz and many other problems like it. Many new forms of malware require manual intervention.

I had got rid of all the ELITE files but I realised my son was still using Kazaa which I suspect, was the source of the Malware. I have now deleted all copies of this and other P2P programs from my computer. Thanks again for all your help.
