Desktop Icon Slow Loading

I running WIn.XP Home. When I turn my PC.on the desk top Picture loads and then it takes about 2 min.s To load the Start task bar & Iconsconfused . I have even had AVG get updates and show that box before the Icons showed up. The PC is running great besides that, . Thanks in advance for any ideas

What is the cpu and ram?

When was the last time ye ran a tune up? Or a defrag?

Defraged about 2 weeks ago. But defraging now

We run all the clean up things about every day .

 

Another thing to try. And only do this when the system is up and running. With no antivirus program running in the background (including any antispyware program).

Download and run:

Dial-a-fix:

Extract, then run dial-a-fix.

Next, click on the hammer tool.
Click Process Idle Tasks.
Click Go.

Read the text, that pops up, and press yes.
This process may take a loooong time to run. Just wait till the Go button comes up again.
