    No!
    Open Control Panel > Folder Options > View and click Restore Defaults. That will hide desktop.ini & thumbs.db. They are system files that are hidden by default.

    You either show or hide the system files. There are utilities that will allow you to hide individual files but using such a utility with system files I will not recommend.
    I can meet you halfway - CCleaner will delete thumbs.db files. However, if you have images on the Desktop, Windows might recreate the thumbs.db file.

    The link you provided doesn't say anything about a registry modification - it asks a question. And the answers are clear.

    Here's a free file/folder hide program. You'll have to search for a portable version.

    I don't trust programs that change the behaviour of system files simple because they are system files. I don't mess with them.

    thx so much!!

    here it is...:

    "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
    "DisableThumbsDBOnNetworkFolders"=dword:00000001

    There has to be registry tweak to disable Desktop.ini generation "

    cheers!

    thumbs.db files are just collections of the thumbnails of the images in folders. They can safely be deleted or disabled because they are not needed for Windows to work. See my reference to CCleaner.

    desktop.ini files are Configuration settings files. If you delete or disable them, Windows will behave strangely. Tooltips will disappear and specialised folder icons will be replaced with the default folder icon.
