I followed the instructions in the run and read me sticky, then after i restarted my PC and the desktop would not load. Also I cannot use the internet on the PC, but for some reason it works with bearshare but nothing else. What shall I do to fix this.

At which point in the Read and Run me did this occur ?

Can you boot into safe mode ?

How are you running bearshare (which incidently comes bundled with adware) if you can't access your desktop.

After i did some of the scans in using the programs and then i restarted my PC, this error occurred.

I can log into safe mode but there is no desktop or start menu either.

And i can use bearshare because an explorer window opens when i start up the PC but nothing else. I can navigate around files on my PC through the explorer window.

Explorer is the same process that manages the desktop and the file navigation, it seems it is starting up in the wrong mode.

Do you have the logs from the scans ? If so post them.

Press Ctrl - Alt - Del to bring up the task manager.

Click File --> 'New Task (Run)'

In the resulting dialog type in CMD and press enter.

In the resulting Command Prompt Window type in sfc /scannow and press enter

    Have your windows CD handy!

you will need your xp cd you run sfc.

Try pressing Ctrl -> Alt -> Del and killing all instances of explorer and then running Explorer.exe manually in the way we did above.

You could also try posting in the software forum and see if any of the guys there have seen anything similar before.

When i do that it just brings up another explorer window.

Ok you could try doing a system restore to a point before the problem occured.

To run system restore use %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe in the same way as I described earlier. You will lose any programs that were installed AFTER the date to which you restore but user files will not be effected.

I tried to do this already but after i did the scans the system restore points were deleted when I tried to do it.

None of the scans should have deleted the restore points,

You need to find your xp CD.
