I have been battling a real piece of catastrophe called "spyware guard 2008" nastiest piece of malware I have ever gone up against and it looks like its finally gone after a week of booting into safe mode and going back and forth between computers looking for fixes...anyways now Im stuck with a blank device manager..no network..no audio=no fun.

I have tried numerous different things and Im almost to the point of reformatting but I have always been able to fix my computer regardless of what it was so Im not going down without a fight...if anyone has any ideas no matter how crazy they are Im willing to try.
    Thank you

I know what you mean about fighting against formatting. I feell exactly the same way. I can think of two things that may help. One is reregistering the dll

Click Start > RUN > type:

    regsvr32 dmocx.dll

    click OK

Two perhaps the service is stopped.

Click Start > RUN and type:

    services.msc

    then click OK.

Look for the item that says Plug and Play and double click it.

The path to the executable should be (assuming windows XP)
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe

The Start up type should be set to Automatic.

No start parmeters should be set.

    Click apply and reboot.
