Diablo 2 Install problem

When i try and install it after i accept the agreement thing it says can not install uninstall data file. installation aborted. Can i fix this??

 

Is this a second or more attempt?
You may have to delete the existing D2 directory and clean your registry. This seems to be a file you cannot write over while doing a re-install. This happens if you uninstall D2 and do not delete all its data files.

 

I use to play it ages ago and when i uninstalled it i cant remember if i clicked uninstall or if i deleted all the files but ive used the search thing on my computer to look for all diablo files and i cant find any more got any ideas where they would be or be hidden??

Check Add/Remove programs in Control Panel to see if it's there. Also go to start->run->regedit and using it's search function, try to search for it. Also note where you are installing it, if the folder you try to install in isn't read only, if you have administrative rights when you try installing and check your CDs if they have scratches on them.

 

Hi an old diablo2'er myself where my sudo stems from...so thought I'd drop 10cents in.

Anyways you may want to check your registry - start > run > regedit > hit F3 for find and type in DiabloII.

Also ensure when using the "search thing" that you are searching all drives, although if I recall the default install path is C:\ (perhaps) documents and settings. When using search, at the top of the search panel is the view option or there abouts find and select the option to show hidden files and folders..you may have small "hidden files" hidding somewhere - maybe two files?
