    Hello,
This is going to sound "dumb" but I haven't worked with "dial-up" internet in so long I can't remember.

I have a neighbor that has 2 computers both running Windows XP (one Home and the other Pro) and they want to network them together AND share one internet connnection. I'm thinking they'll need one ethernet network card for each machine and a hub or router (not sure if a router would work with a dial-up) and of course enough ethernet cable to hook them both to the hub/router. If they use their O.S. to allow internet sharing as well as some files and their printer can't this be done?

In this scenario, would one machine need two ethernet cards using a cross-over cable to allow internet access?

Please fill me in on what I might not be considering.

    As usual, "Thanks"

    jnulr

for a dial-up connection one machine needs a modem and they both need a network card.you can then hook the two machines together with a cross-over cable, or you can use regular cable and go thru a switch or hub. that would give you room for future expansion.then just enable internet connection sharing and you should be all set.
