Digital copy of blu ray not playing

Hi, I've tried downloading a digital copy of a Blu-ray movie on a Win 7 PC with V12 of media player. I selected the version for Windows Media Player and it downloaded fine. But when clicking on the file name it reports that windows media player encountered a problem. Also, the file is shown as an icon, rather than a frame from the video as you'd expect. Could this be a corrupt copy or do I require other software? Thanks

 

You might try the KLite mega codec pack and use classic player or VLC. It sounds like you may be missing a codec.

personally I like the interface in classic, but many like VLC.

If this does not work, post what file type you are trying to run, .MKV, MP4, etc
