disable built-in microphone on gateway zx6980

    Does anyone know how to disable the built-in microphone on a gateway one zx 6980?

    Which version of Windows are you running? The method is slightly different from XP to Vista/7/8.

    Nevermind, I now know it's a Windows 8 all-in-one.

    Go to Control Panel -> Sound and click on the Recording tab. Click on the Microphone entry then click on Properties. In the Device Usage drop-down select Don't use this device (disable) then click apply and OK and OK again and close Control Panel. Of course, plugging in an external mic also disables the built-in one.
