My daughter has a Samsung QX410 running Windows 7.

There is a box in the touchpad properties that will enable her to disable tapping, but it is always re-enabled when she restarts the laptop.

Is there a way to change the startup default and prevent that from happening?

    Thanks

Try starting the PC in Safe Mode (F8 in the boot screen). If this disables the tapping, the issue is likely an add-on program enabled at startup.

To disable the program run MSCONFIG , go to the startup tab and uncheck the touch point program (this will not uninstall it; it will just keep it from loading automatically at startup).

    Hope this helps. :)

IF changing the startup in MSCONFIG works, return MSCONFIG to "normal" bootup, install CCleaner (available from MG here), and use the Startup controls within CCleaner to disable the touch point program (or whatever program is causing the conflict, assuming one is). MSCONFIG is NOT designed to manage your startup programs, it is only for temporary troubleshooting.
