I´m running Windows ME with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 for Samsung CD-ROM SC-1-48 and Samsung Combo CD-RW SM-304B drives.

My burner stopped recognising the CD-RW facility several months ago, but still let me burn Read only discs.

A few days ago Direct CD refused to work, and today both disk drives are not displayed by Explorer at all!

For the last few days I have used “Audiograbber” to convert some of my audio CDs into MP3s. I also downloaded a couple of Critical Windows updates yesterday.

Several restoration points have proved unsuccessful. The repair facility in Add/Remove Manager does not accept the original disks.

Any advice on what else I could try?

So both your cd drives are not shown in device manager or my computer

firstly see if the bios can see the cd drives try swapping your primary (hdd)cable take out from back of hdd then connect to either of your cd drives then boot machine and see if it can see them
    then post back

Try uninstalling the relevant controller in Device Manager and rebooting.

Hopefully, Windows plug 'n pray should detect and reinstall it.
