    Hi all

When trying to do a boot time defrag using diskeeper 2008 I get the following message:

Some argument was unrecognized or conflicting, boot-time not running...

I’ve googled but can only find one post (That’s right only one post on all of Google) that mentions this error message (It was here on major Geeks) but no solution, although I did follow a link that suggested a regedit solution.

I’ve checked BootExecute in the registry and the string reads:

    autocheck autochk * autocheck AUTONTFS C: PAGE=MIN DIRS=NONE ENDPAUSE MFT=MIN

I’ve tried to modify string so it reads:

    autocheck autochk * autocheck AUTONTFS C: PAGE=KEEP DIRS=NONE MFT=MIN

but after attempting yet another failed boot time defrag I checked the reg only to find that PAGE=KEEP had once again become PAGE=MIN.
I also tried with default autocheck autochk * no luck there either.

This is obviously not a common problem (Yet) Diskeeper 2008 is only new and of course I accept that there’s bound to be a bug or two but I would like to say at this stage that I have been disappointed by tech support at Diskeeper. Many days have passed and still no reply.

If there are any gurus out there who can help I would be eternally grateful .

    I’m running Xp
I’ve never had any Norton (Symantec ) software on this machine ever
And I have run previous versions of Diskeeper without any problems

Diskeeper should be able to do boot-time defrag if it claims it can. I ditched it cuz it looked for a floppy every so often. Not a big deal. I'm using Raxco PerfectDisk to defrag my os drive on a daily schedule while I sleep. Works like a champ.

Maybe you have a nonstandard config like os drive being D/E/F/G... instead of C. Or something else like there's another boot-time task.

    Hi akhilles

Thanks for the quick response. I greatly appreciate your time.

My Drive config is standard C:

I've become quite attached to Diskeeper, However I do need boot time defrag. If I exhaust all means to repair Diskeeper problem I will certainly look at Raxco PerfectDisk or maybe O&O.

    Problem solved!
Many thanks to Diskeeper Tech Support Specialist – Ken and also Director of Product Management – Michael.

In my original post I expressed my disappointment at Diskeeper Tech Support not getting back to me. I would like to take back that comment.

    Solution:
    copy AutoNTFS.exe from C:\Program Files\Diskeeper
    Corporation\Diskeeper to C:\WINDOWS\system32

Boot-time defrag works correctly once this is done.
