    Possible DNS Changer issues

Symptoms: I noticed that for the past few days nothing has been autoupdating - not Windows, not Avira, nothing. When I would tell any program to update, it would fail (with the sole exception of Spybot, which worked fine). Firefox was working, IE could not display any pages. I freaked out and haphazardly ran a bunch of programs - Spybot found nothing, a Malwarebytes quick scan found nothing, but SuperAntispyware found "Trojan.DNSChanger-Codec" in the registry. I have attached my initial SuperAntispyware, Combofix, and MGTools logs below.

Then, I wised up and followed all the proper steps for "Vista Cleaning Procedure." UAC off, old Java uninstalled, toggled system restore afterwards, etc.
I ran Avira beforehand, and it found some stuff in my Firefox profiles (which may have just been from DLing ComboFix, which it also freaked out about) - I'll throw that log in just in case it's helpful
    SuperAntispyware found only old cookies.
    Spybot found nothing.
Malwarebytes deep scan found Rogue.Netcom in the registry and in QuickTime Alternative, which I at first thought was a false positive but ended up deleting anyway immediately afterward.
I ran MGTools again - I suspect the blank "O13 - Gopher Prefix:" needs to be removed, but I wasn't sure.
I will post these newer logs below as well.

I eventually discovered that my Internet Options had been changed (not by me) to use a LAN proxy server - I unchecked the proxy options and everything works fine again - I can update things, and IE works again.

What is really worrying me, and the reason that I'm bothering to post this here, is that I never really found anything solid other than registry entries (and a possible false positive in that QuicktimeAlternative exe) - which makes me nervous that there is an exe or dll floating around somewhere in the HT logs that I must have missed.

Here is round 2 of the scans, following the Vista Cleaning Procedure.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to uninstall the below old version of Sun Java:
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6

Now reboot, and after reboot, install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

You are using a version of MGtools which is about 14 months out of date. I'm not sure when or where you got this from but you did not download what was given to you in the READ & RUN ME instructions. You always need to download and use the current version of our tools. It would be best if you attach a new log now from the current version just to be on the safe side; but the logs you have attached thus far do not show any real problems. Just false positives.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

No idea how I ended up with such an old version of MGtools, but I made sure to get the current one from the proper thread. I uninstalled Java before scanning. I attached the new logs below; hopefully everything's clean.

Your logs are all clean! You should reinstall QuickTime Alternative since MBAM incorrectly deleted things for it.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
