    Hi all

I have finally given up on the computer I was trying to fix myself. Thank you to all who tried to help with it over the last couple of months.

Unfortunately despite cleaning all the viruses out that I could find it never recovered and I finally lost internet access as well as my cursor plus a bunch of other strange mysteries. It was suggested by an engineer that a complete wash out and reload was needed. Hopefully it will be born again new and without viruses and finally I will have my beloved cursor back!!

I currently have Norton AntiVirus installed and Norton Firewall, but I was shocked to discover that the online Kaspersky virus scanner found 81 infected files on my machine and 17 individual threats which Norton had missed. Also in running the clean out that is recommended on this site a whole bunch more showed up.

What annoys me is that I pay good money for Norton each year on the two machines that I have, but after this have lost a lot of confidence in them and am now worried about my second machine. I have been trawling through various reviews for anti virus and firewall programs and it still seems to score quite highly. How?

Kaspersky has been recommended to me, but before I throw away all the money I have spent on renewing my subscriptions for another year, I was hoping someone could recommend some decent software. :)
It is a shame you can not run more than one at a time to feel more protected.

What is the best one out there?
If it is Kaspersky has anyone experienced any problems with it?
Maybe Norton is protecting me more than I am aware and uninstalling it and chucking my subscription is a terrible idea.

Any advice on which one to choose would be greatly received. In spending all the money to have the computer restored it would be a shame to have the same thing happen again within 6 months

Which one really is the best?

What we recommend can be found in the following thread: How to Protect yourself from malware!

Malware writers test their programs against the top selling AV programs. The top 3 selling programs are Norton, McAfee, and Trend Micro. These programs miss roughly 50% of the malware in the "Wild". These programs are also becoming more and more demanding on system resources, and can severly effect system performance.

If you don't mind paying for Antivirus software, then NOD32 or Kaspersky. Would be excellent choices.

Well said SPD! ;) I agree and I would add the paid version of AVG is very good too (and the free version is not to bad either).

Thank you both for your advice.

I am going to give Kaspersky a try. The more people I speak to the more they dislike Norton!!. The engineer who fixed the computer has also put Xoftspy on as well. I have a years subscription to both now so hopefully no more problems.:)

I believe one of the other engineers has the free version AVG and swears by that. He says he hates the constant pestering from Norton. It talks to him too much!!!

If all works out I will change the laptop over to this software also ASAP.

    Thank you o clever ones!!:)
