download manager

    I am running windows XP (up to date)on a toshiba laptop. Two days ago,about 5 minutes after I boot up, the download manager starts(have no idea what it is downloading)and then my computer freezes for about a minute, then everything runs normal.Today,after the freeze,everytime I end a program I get an Internet Manager blank page.
    I'm stymied. Do you think I have a virus(AVG and Spybot cant find it if I do).What would you recommend that I do?
