Downloaded ran HijackThis -now what? new here

New here, found site via google search and followed instructions about HJT. Downloaded/ran per instructions (have in renamed folder) on my 3 1/2 month old pc. Runnning XP Media Center Edition Ver 2002 SP2.

McAfee security system came with computer, noticed recently that eventhough the red indicator was on, it was not able to work properly and defend my computer. I recently downloaded PC Reg Mechanic, Reg Cleaner, & PC doc, still had trouble so also downloaded Counter spy. Talk about overkill , right!! All programs have been loaded within last week to week and half. PC doc has been uninstalled, now PC Reg Mech seems to find the same 3 "problems" with back to back scans. While allowing PC Reg Mech to be in monitor mode, running another scan 30+ min later can result in 30+ new issues. When I could, I would follow up one of them with another (PC Reg Mech, then Counter Spy, then poss PC Reg Cleaner -- in no certain order mainly whichever the computer would allow me to open and run) Counter Spy always seemed to be able to find MANY more issues. Like 150-300+ to 40 with others. Only Counter Spy and PCs Reg Cleaner do not seem to like each other -- they both considered the other a virus from the very first time I ran each. It couldn't be my new computer or any of the $70 worth (well I paid that not sure if worth yet) of NEW software installed. Nah, couldn't be that or even me...

Sorry if too much info, thread I read about to get here said to give as much info as possible. HJT was downloaded and ran last night. I have the inst to leave a copy of my file. I really appreicate ANY help you could offer. Thank you.

I will assume that other than me explaining about recent software installed and ran the folder will give enough information to help me. Thanks again, even if it ends up that i just need to give up and get a new computer.

• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

• CounterSpy
• AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
• Bitdefender - from step 6
• Panda Scan - from step 6
• runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
• newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
