Downloader-ruin trojan

To any expert out there:

I have come across a couple of other threads regarding this trojan, downloader-ruin. I ran Spy Sweeper (the trial version) on my computer and I found I have it on my computer as well.

Ad-aware stops running, Spybot takes forever to complete, and I get taken to random google pages or sites whenever I click on certain links. Apparently, this is what the trojan does (I'm definitely no computer whiz).

I downloaded the HijackThis application...I attached the log (normal mode).

Hopefully, I did it right and someone can help me to get rid of this trojan. Any help would be appreciated.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

• Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
• Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

• After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

• When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
  • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
  • Bitdefender - from step 6
  • Panda Scan - from step 6
  • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
  • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
  • HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Apparently I received an email that you replied to my thread a few days ago but it was one of many posts and accounts deleted from the server.

I did follow a couple of the instructions that came with the email that I could read, such as downloading and installing the latest Sun Java update and getting rid of any Full Tilt Poker remnants on my computer (I had already uninstalled it but the folder remained).

However, any quotations you may have used in your actual post were not present in the email, so if you told me to uninstall anything else or to run a program and remove something, I never received it.

Basically, could you re-post whatever else you said in that deleted post? Here's a new HJT log, if that helps. Thanks.

Sorry about the delay. Lets carry on with the fix!


IMPORTANT: You should print or save the below locally, so you can refer to them while offline. You must exit all browsers before running the below steps and it would be best if you actually physically unplug your cable to the internet, reboot, and do not run anything but what I give you to do. Also it would be good to exit all processes and items in your System tray.

Do the above before continuing! Okay unplug your cable now.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)




Run HijackThis. Click the 'Do a system scan only' button.

Place a checkmark in the box next to the following lines:

Let me know how things are running now

Post a fresh HijackThis log, a fresh newfiles log

 

Files are attached. My computer is running very well right now...no signs of malware, trojans, viruses, etc.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
   • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
3. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
   • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
   • Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
4. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
