Downloading a Linux Distro - Links and Guidance

    Hi

    Not a bad guide, but do you know whats missing on it as its aimed at new users to linux? screenshots, lack of screenshots imho makes a novice turn off as too much text.

    I think that the one thing a new user to Linux should always try out is a Live Linux CD (plenty available) as it wont mess up your Windows install, and yo get to test Linux out to see if its for you, another way is to run Virtual PC be that Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 or SUN VirtualBox and fully install in a virtual enviroment the Linux OS, this way its not running the limitations of running off LiveCD and is just like installing it as your main OS.

    just a note,

    i've found that its quite difficult to install a linux guest distro on microsoft virtual pc,
    in fact i have not got one to work properly without some configuration as virtual pc and microsoft do not support linux,

    To add to the virtual mix, I use VMWare's Player 3.0(free) which is a relatively small, easy and quick to setup/install virtual machine software. Very stable for *nix.

    Yeah while not got all linux distros to install in VPC 2007 I do have some installed, pretty much using this method HERE

    I will agree that in the most part its not that easy, and Suns VirtualBox or Augies VMWare 3/0 Free is going to be much easier.
