Downloading thorough which port?

When downloading a file from any website (for example Major Geeks), which port will pass the download? Which part of Windows (Windows XP pro SP2)manages said traffic, why the Firewall (ZoneAlarm) does not block said traffic?
At the same time P2P requires free access torough a port, but despite I forward the port to allow traffic TCP and UDP in the firewall, traffic does not come thorough at expected speed. Can I use the regular "download port of Win XP" for P2P?

If I'm correct. When you are downloading information form a web page you should be using port 80 by default (which is why it is so ineffecient). Some pages do create links that let you download using an FTP port which is a bit better. Because these are basic ports, Zone Alarm will let the traffic through.

It is hard to tell you what ports are required P2P unless you know which one that app is going to use. They can use any one that the programmer felt like using. If you know what those are and open them up you should be okay.

Thanks factor. The strange part is that the "normal" downloading (I mean here for example DL HiJack This!, I do not mean the viewing of web pages) goes quite fast compared to the P2P port, or at least thats how it seems. I should have at least 200 kBps both up and down, but when I'm on P2P the maximum speed I see on Down is 20 kBps, an on Up 45 kBps.

P2P downloading is slow in general because you are downloading from individual users instead of a server. 20KB/s is great for P2P downloading. If your trying to download something through internet explorer while P2P programming is running, that is understandable. P2P uses up a lot of bandwidth in general and generates a lot of traffic.
