    Hi,

    Today, I was uninstalling the Norton security software of which its free trial just ended and installed Avira as suggested in a post on here. It ran an initial quick scan, without prompting and found a "DR/Delphi.gen" file, in a suspicious "Help 24x7" application, that I quarantined as suggested. It was then that I realized that maybe this application isn't legitimate with these weird people icons at the top of most windows, inviting us to click for help. Upon an internet search, it would seem that at least one other person had this exact same description on a similar "Geek" site and it seems the application may be as I suspect. In the post, the other person was having more problems but I just wanted to make sure it doesn't get to that point. Oh, also when first investigating the suspicious application, I noticed it would have been installed the day we first got the laptop in the evening so it wasn't preinstalled, as I initially thought. Also, when I read the other post, they mentioned wallpapers downloaded and I then recalled that one of my daughter's had downloaded (without my permission) some wallpapers.

    Well, I wanted to make sure that it wasn't just a coincidence and am a loyal Majorgeeks person, so I thought I'd start by following the instructions in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" thread and see where that would get me, since that has helped me a time or two, now. I have attached the logs requested. Right this minute, my computer is currently acting fine, but I still have the people icons after running all the scans and wanted to make sure that it is all set.

    I'm not sure if these things are related or not but I should mention that we have had our laptop for about a month and it has had some real slow times as well as occasional quirkiness (for instance, things just randomly closing out). Oh, one more thing, my things like the pictures, documents and similar files in the Libraries area no longer work probably for about a week or so now. It seems to be different than "My" Pictures or documents so I haven't really been more than minorly annoyed that whenever I go to do things to deal with these sorts of files and it automatically tries to go to the non working folders, I then just go to the other working ones. It says, ""Documents.library-ms is no longer working." It can safely be deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected." Just in case that is relevant.

    Thanks so much for everything all of you do!
    Valerie

    Please use Add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Search Protect by conduit

    Then rerun RogueKiller and remove these if they still exist:

    [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : SearchProtect (C:\Users\Valerie\AppData\Roaming\SearchProtect\bin\cltmng.exe) [7] -> FOUND
    [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-2407422904-3997036370-2760348614-1008[...]\Run : SearchProtect (C:\Users\Valerie\AppData\Roaming\SearchProtect\bin\cltmng.exe) [7] -> FOUND
    [TASK][SUSP PATH] Updater26278.exe : C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Updater26278\Updater26278.exe /extensionid=26278 /extensionname="Solid Savings" /chromeid=cijeeimilokkhlfjombmalgpabbonmah [7] -> FOUND

    Then rerun Hitman and have it delete all those PUP's.

    Reboot and rescan with RogueKiller and attach that new log also. Be sure to tell me how things are running now.

    The people at the top of all the windows are still there but the computer is running good. I see the program for the people icons in the add/remove programs list so should I try just removing it. Maybe it is a legit program but it is annoying. I did have an old email that I've logged into recently get wrongly logged into and sent email to all my contacts from it with a weird link. I don't know if that would be related or not. I only knew because my new email is a contact in the old email.

    Thanks!

    Could you give me a screen shot of what you are referring to ... the "people" at the top of your screen.

    Yes, it is attached. The screenshot shows the person icon at the top of the active window as well as the desktop icon labeled 24x7 Help.

    Also, I forgot to mention in my last response that the Libraries that I actually took the screenshot of are still not working. Here is the quote from my original post describing it in ore detail:

    "my things like the pictures, documents and similar files in the Libraries area no longer work probably for about a week or so now. "

    Thanks!

    Yes, if that is what is causing you issues, try removing it. Tell me what happens.

    Hi,

    The people are gone! Everything still is fine but the Libraries problem is still there so it's probably not related right?

    Thanks,
    Valerie

    I suggest you post in the software forum for the remaining issue.

    In the mean time:

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link

    Okay, thanks. Just a couple of questions about the post, "How to Protect Yourself from Malware". One, is the firewall on Windows 8 okay or should I disable it and add one on the list? Two, when I went to see about my Java, I couldn't see it anywhere in my programs list. Should I download and install the latest one?

    Thanks!

    I don't have an opinion about Win8's firewall. You could ask for advice in the software forum. As for Java, again, not something you need unless you run into sites that require it. I've had mine disabled for a long time now.
