    Good Day,
Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving. My sister has asked me to purchase a computer system for my niece who plays lots of games on the PC. She has also requested a second monitor for "Multi Tasking" This seems easy as long as you have a good Desktop.

I am going to buy her the following PC

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Black-...-Drive-and-Window-8-Operating-System/24699992

Below are the spec's on this PC
Processor Type: Intel Pentium G2020T Processor
    Hard Drive Size: 1TB
    Multimedia Drive: SuperMulti DVD Burner
    Operating System: Windows 8
    Monitor Size: 20"
    System Ram: 8 GB
    Primary Color: Black
    Multi Pack Indicator: No
Battery Type: Does Not Contain a Battery
    Model No.: 110-023wb
    Shipping Weight (in pounds): 30.0
    Product in Inches (L x W x H): 15.14 x 6.5 x 14.33
    Walmart No.: 551513050

I am going to buy her the following second monitor

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hewlett-Packard-C9F26A8-ABA/23876400
Below are the spec's on the second monitor
    Brightness: 250cd/m2
    Resolution: 1600 x 900
Battery Type: Does Not Contain a Battery
    Multi Pack Indicator: No
    Model No.: C9F26A8#ABA
    Shipping Weight (in pounds): 9.65
    Product in Inches (L x W x H): 21.9 x 16.6 x 5.1
    Walmart No.: 551356434

I'm assuming I have selected a nice desktop unit that will have enough kick to play the games... I also think this second monitor is as close to the monitor that comes with the unit. (size, shape, ect..)

Were I am asking for your kind assistance is the purchase of the "VIDEO CARD" that will allow me to hook up both monitors.

I am assuming I need to take out the original video card and replace it with a duel monitor video card?

Also, I'm assuming this is a simple unplug the old plug in the new installation?

With that said, if you can direct me to the perfect video card for this and if there is "ANY" thing else I need to do this dual monitor hook up job.

Your Kind Assistance is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

This model appears to be available at Walmart only, and the specs listed on Walmart.com's page do not list what type of board or expansion slots this model has. As such, I would shy away from it for the following reasons:

    * Many newer HP towers (like this one) use a mini-ITX motherboard that does NOT have a video card expansion (PCI-e) slot. The slats on the back of the case that give the illusion can take a video card are, in fact, useless. Unless you can see an inside view of the case and motherboard that shows otherwise, assume the worst.

    * Even if the motherboard itself has two video ports (DVI and VGA), it's likely you won't be able to upgrade the video for the reason noted above.

    * A Pentium level processor, while OK for basic computing, is now considered a low-end CPU. You should get (at minimum) an i3 CPU for gaming or (if the budget allows it) an i5 if the PC will be used for gaming.

If you live near a Fry's or MicroCenter, you should be able to find a better deal. Even Best Buy would be an option. If not, I would check out what's available at www.dell.com. Any of these are likely a better option than Walmart.

    Hope this helps. :)

This sure puts a wrench in things. I do appreciate your help with the reply. I have about a $750 budget on this. The above Walmart items played nice on the budget. I do have a Best Buys here in Maryland yet there SKY HIGH on Prices. Thanks for the Tip on the i5 processor. If anyone knows were I can buy a 8gig ram i5 processor with two 20" monitors thats perfect for a gamer for $750 let me know
    Thanks

ok, I went to Best Buys and bought a all in one Gateway desktop matching the suggested specifications you mentioned above.

    I got this unit
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dx-series-desktop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/1747384.p?id=1219062806947&skuId=1747384&st=categoryid$abcat0501000&cp=1&lp=1

I also bought an identical 2nd monitor

I then bought this graphics card for duel monitor
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-...542&skuId=1701246&st=graphics card&cp=1&lp=68

I have 2 issues installing the card..

1.) It has a "Power cable" it's calling "optional Power" (see attached image) Checking every wire that comes out of the "PC's Power Supply" there is No Extra (empty) power leads..

1-A.) My question is, with this newer gateway unit does it need Power the PCI Express card port that this card plugs into or does it supply it's own power to the port?

1-B) If I need power to this card since there is NO extra hook ups were do I get it?

    My Second issue
The Monitor Ports on the back of the card are as seen in the image attached (circled in yellow) DVI-I & DVI-D

However, the two cables running off the monitor have the same DVI-D

My question is do I simply buy a DVI-I converted from DVI-D ? so this has a place for both monitors?

Last question, do I need to take out the Origanal grafics card from this GatewAY before installing the new one?

    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

They sell a better version in the 110 line on HP.com. The biggest problem is going to be the onboard GPU. You will need to add a scent graphics card, along with bumping the RAM to at least 16gb, to get any decent performance, while playing games.

Lenovo actually makes a better desktop at around the same price, that would out perform that HP. I would look at them, before committing.

The problem with the $499.00 Gateway was it only had a 300watt Power Supply with NO extra connections. (preventing the install of the graphics card)

We took the gateway back to Best Buys the gave us a $799 HP with double the capacity on Ram and hard drive for NO EXTRA CHARGE since the sales guy said the Gateway would work.

Were very very happy and so is the kid. Mission accomplished.
    Thanks
