    Hi All

Not sure if this is a software problem or internet problem, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Lately when sending an email to someone, I sometimes get back a postmaster failure to deliver message, this has happened both in my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts and I'm at a loss as to why this is happening, I thought at first that it was settings on my own PC that was causing it, but it has also happened on another PC in a different country, can anyone shed any light on this, it seems to have something to do with an attached message, but I have not attached anything to my emails of late, also note this postmaster is different from the previous failure to deliver I received, the last one kept stating it was unable to send to recipient and that was some University email address, which I had never heard of and had certainly not tried to contact. Please see below postmasters reply which I have copied and pasted,

Just been thinking about this, is there a virus that might do this, if so, maybe I've transferred it to my PC via a memory stick? and if thats the case, then I'll follow the forums advice for fixing an infection.

When the message bounces back, does it give you an SMTP code number? If so, what's the number?

    Hi PEBKAC

I don't see any SMTP number, only attachments, ending in .Txt and .Eml and the funny thing about it is, I never attached anything to the emails, it was only a written email.

Hi Back again, this emailing problem as I stated before is not only when I send from Yahoo email, but also when I send from Hotmail, now I've tried sending from Lycos and the same has happened, it just bounced straight back to me, I've even had an email sent back to me when I emailed my neice, please see below the results of the last post failure sent immediately to my Lycos account, anyone got any idea why its doing this, note, I'm not a spammer.

Are you sure you got the right e-mail?

Using web clients like yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc has very little to do with your client machine.

You can log onto those sites so it's not a firewall or a filter. Those services also use their own DNS and MTA's so it wouldn't be filtered at the ISP level either.

Does this happen with any other e-mail address? Does this e-mail user still exist? Does this e-mail user's MX allow web mail address to pass it's filter?

    Hi Olestros

Thanks for the reply, yes I've emailed others, however when doing so, I was getting a postmaster undelivered email back, but each time it had some address of a university, which I had not sent an email to, so not sure whats happening, anyway, since then I've sent emails to this tech support at Balbao in the States and this time the postmaster undelivered email came back with the correct email address, cannot give you anymore information than that, this MX whatever it is, I'm sorry, do not know what it means, nor have seen anything like it in the returned emails.

    Regards

    Pozzy

Hmm... wish i could say something positive Pozzy but it looks like you're being filtered somewhere down the line.

Can you make *any* outgoing e-mails using webmail clients like yahoo, hotmail, gmail?

Do you have an internal e-mail server that is not a free mail server? ( I.e. corporate e-mail server, University e-mail, etc.?)

The reason I say this is because you're getting a lot of bounce back. Your mail headers from the lycos account seem to be in order as well. Didn't see any glaring problems there.

Post some more e-mail headers so I can see if there's a trend.

Thanks once again for getting back to me, I only use either Yahoo, Hotmail or Lycos the latter mainly as a buffer for spam, I'm only using a PC at home, the only access to a server is when I'm at work and I work overseas from my home address, however still at home for now, one other thing I've not sent many emails lately and the ones I have sent have not been returned, so hopefully everything is Ok now, I think I will try sending to Balboa one more time just to see what happens, anyway a big thanks from me for your time and effort, it really is appreciated as is my appreciation to Major Geeks for use of this forum.

    Regards

    Pozzy
