Tim, just sent you the email below.

I have just gone back to MG and clicked on new thread. It works as you can see. I have not done anything since sending the email. I am thoroughly confused, Bazza

    Tim,

this is the only way I can post a thread. Please shift it to software, thanks.

Yesterday I downloaded M$ Directx 9 update and installed it.

Today I am having various troubles accessing MG. I fist noticed that DaChicken's avatar wouldn't display. Other avatars are OK. Could be coincidence.

Then I try to open various threads to read them, some work, some don't.

When I try open up a new thread or the posts that don't work, I get Error 500--Unknown host. Other websites open OK.

Hope someone at MG can help. I haven't done the full virus check yet but will do it all when I log off. Bazza

Error 500 is an Internal Server Error. Try clearing your cookies/temp files.

Thanks Goldy. I normally run emptemp, crapcleaner and cleanup! after every session. I did it yesterday. I will do it again after I log off. All appears OK now, but could it be anything else? Bazza

Well unless its a script error on MG (and everyone would have seen it) its either corruption of sessiondata on the server or of cookies, which causes a bad request to be given which the script doesnt expect and so it throws a generic 500 error.

Google says it might be a problem with your Proxy (maybe AOL?)

Goldy, thanks again. As you say it may have occurred in this session only. AOL is on it's last gasps with me after many years as I am moving and will be able to access broadband.

I can (and have) accessed other URL's today, including 2 in OZ and 1 in Sierra Leone, West Africa through AOL. No problems with them. Anyhow as previously posted, all appears OK right now. I guess I will write it off to one of those "features" that crop up now and again. Bazza
