error involving dll

I am running Win98 SE. At times, when I click on different items on the desktop or while R-clicking on my hard drive, I get an error messages that reads, "EXPLORER caused a general protection fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0004:00000dbf" after which I cannot press "Ignore" and must push Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart my computer. I just did a complete restore from my Win98 SE CD. Thought I might be missing this dll file or maybe it was corrupt. Before the Restore, I was receiving several blue screen "Fatal Exception Errors" and could do nothing but a "cold" shutdown. This seems to be occuring less, but now I sometimes receive the error message described above. Please help! Thanks!

Question: To edit the "System.ini" do I go to Start, Run, then type in system.ini, and press enter? This opens up in "Notepad". I see that I can edit it from there, but unsure where to type the fix that MS gives me on the link you referred me to. Thanks so much for your time!

 

run sysedit and go to system.ini add the text just under where it says drivers this tells your system where to look for the .dll file
