Error Message on Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

    I downloaded the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, but when I tried to run it, I got an error message: "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor encountered an error scanning your system. If the problem persists, install the latest version". I have installed the latest version (1.0), and the error message persists. I am running XP Pro (32 bit). Can anyone suggest why I am getting the error message?

    Couple of options.


    1. Are you running SP2, Min of .Net 1.1 and MSXML4? if not tool no worko.

    2. Firewall could be blocking tool accessing the net, check firewall settings.

    3. Strange proxy issue, add the below:

    above taken from copy of NG message on this issue I have saved.

    Thx Halo ... I am running SP2 & Net 1.1 ... not sure about MSXML4. I'll check it out. Don't think it's a firewall issue ... I run Norton, and I allowed it through the firewall. I'll double check though. I don't use a proxy server.

    Hi Rob

    Even if your not using a proxy add that setting as its a MS server, you can delete and untick VPN Proxy once you've run the tool.

    Could also be the service is just busy at present, weekend and all, doubt it as they have masses of bandwidth.
