Error message "RunDLL" popup

I've recently been attacked by a virus during which my laptop was locked and I was told to pay a certain amount of money in order to unlock it.

Obviously not being stupid enough to fall for the scam attempt, I tried (despite not being an expert whatsoever) to work out how to overcome this.

I first tried opening task manager; that didn't work.
I then tried restarting my laptop; that didn't work.

So I went into safe mode and had a root around. First I started an AVG scan to see if that would do anything, and it said some of the files were locked and couldn't be scanned, one of which I saw was in my documents. So I checked the folder and found a file called "wgsdgsdgdsgsd.exe" which I didn't recognise. I didn't want to completely delete it, just in case, so I moved it into my recycling bin, knowing that if it had something to do with the start up lock, it wouldn't work properly as it's not in the original place.

After the scan had finished and I'd moved the .exe file, I went into normal mode and I had control again. So I checked my computer to see if any other files had somehow gotten in and, by clicking the most recently updated files, I found some similar files and moved those into the recycling bin too.

I then looked online on many different forums and websites to see if it's okay to delete these files, and all said that it was, so I did.

But since then the same error message has popped up everytime I start up my laptop.. I've scanned numerous times, using different scanners, tried looking for the files, but I'm not an expert so have no idea what to look for/what I'm doing..


So basically, in short; help please.
