    Hi ...

Help? I can't figure out how to run CCleaner without messing up my printer. Longish explanation follows below. Thanks.

I always come here when I feel like a complete idiot. Well, obviously not every time I feel that way, just when I absolutely can't figure out how to do something even when I think I've read all the directions. :cry Enough self-effacement, here is my issue:

I am trying to figure out how come I keep losing my internet connection (get message that two IP addresses are competing/something or other). So, rather than keep running the diagnostic in IE that restores my connection, I thought I might have a malware problem.

So, I went to the "read & run me first" link and removed one malware from the programs list (some viewer thingy). Now I'm on the CCleaner step, and have run into a problem I used to have with HD Valet. I have an HP printer that stores log information in the temp directory. If those temp files are removed, the printer has to be re-installed. I used to be able to protect those files with a simple command exclude to *hp*.* in the temp folder. No, I didn't figure it out myself, they had an option "exclude x files."

Anyway, it is clear that my computer needs some maintenance, but I don't want to ph*k up my printer.

I think you need to talk to HP about why they would do something so foolish! Either that or perhaps you are not installing the utilities for your printer properly. Don't install them into a Temp folder or anything else on your Desktop. A Temp folder should not be used to store anything that is required for normal operation. If HP is doing that, they need to rewrite their software and fire the person who wrote it that way. Temp basically translates into - you don't need it and it can be removed at any time.

Also why would a printer need to save a log and why would it impact normal operation! What are the file names being created? What printer model is this for?
