    Hi all,

I have a laptop that runs Windows XP. Since two days ago, explorer.exe keeps crashing upon startup and browser keeps opening up with random Chinese websites.

I ran the steps mentioned here, including ccleaner.

It still keeps happening. Can someone please help!!

    Thanks

    Jim

    Welcome to Majorgeeks! Jim,

As you have mentioned you ran the steps here you will have gained some logs to attach to your post, while even running these steps you may still be infected with malware, which is why a few of the logs are not cleaners but for informational purposes to locate where the malware is on your PC, these need to be looked at by experts who understand these logs and the information they show, once our malware experts have reviewed these logs they will issue you some tailored instructions to mop up the remaining malwares, so logs that you will need to attach are:

MGlogs.zip (which has 5 logs inside it, including Hijackthis, just attach the whole Zip )
    AVG
    Combofix logs.

    Halo,

    Thank you so much.

I'm posting this from another computer. I'm trying to get the logs but there is

After I rebooted following an AVG run, AVG says it found "downloader.flux.bz" on a few DLLs. However, I'm stuck in an endless loop where AVG needs to restart to remove the trojan but after each restart it finds more instances of the above trojan.

    What can I do?

    Thanks

Is your copy of Spyware Doctor and paid version or free trial? If free, uninstall it now.

Let's begin by stopping a couple of bad services.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Mesppanger
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Now repeat the above to Stop and Disable the below Service (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • spoolsv.exe
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
Uninstall the below old versions of software:
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v1.4.2
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    LiveUpdate 3.0 (Symantec Corporation)

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it.
This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only)
And then select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WSockx2_32] C:\WINDOWS\WSockx2_32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: utgnehz.dll,nauhgnem.dll,auhad.dll,nuygnef.dll,uohsom.dll,uyom.dll,gnolnait.dll,ijiq.dll,
    ijougiemnaw.dll,iemnaw.dll,niluw.dll,naixuhz.dll,xhtd.dll,oadgnohiac.dll,iqnauhc.dll,nahzij.dll,gnefnaib.dll,
    gsqq.dll,3auhad.dll,naijoad.dll,aixauh.dll,xhqq.dll,QQ.dll,hjxr.dll,zqhs.dll,oadnew.dll,dgzg.dll,hz.dll,2ty.dll,
    jsfg.dll,rj.dll,fmxh.dll,jmx.dll,wtwx.dll,ddtj.dll,fz.dll,gnaixnauhuoyizqq.dll,gnaixnauhqq.dll,2nauygniqaixnaij.dll,
    naijihzeuyouhz.dll,uyomielnux.dll,vlihzouhgnfe.dll,sfhx.dll,eve.dll,jsqc.dll,wtiemnaw.dll,dqncj.dll

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\kkapisth\Local Settings\Temp

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
