    Hello,

I've done extensive research on Google and the Microsoft Knowledge base, with no results.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with four local SATA hard drives, tons of ram, AMD Athlon 64 Toledo 4400 dual core chip, 3 optical drives (1 is usb), Creative Labs Audigy Zs Platinum Pro sound card, and an ATI All-IN-WONDER 600 Pro PCIe video card.

The problem is that whenever I right click on a local hard drive letter (in Windows Explorer) I get the standard error message: Windows Explorer has encoutered a problem and needs to close (send report or don't send). The following is the abbreviated information listed in the report:

    EXE NAME="SYSTEM INFO" FILTER="GRABMI_FILTER_SYSTEM" MATCHING_FILE NAME="advapi32.dll" SIZE="616960" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Advanced Windows 32 Base API"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="gdi32.dll" SIZE="278016" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="gdi32" INTERNAL_NAME="gdi32"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="kernel32.dll" SIZE="983552" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Windows NT BASE API Client DLL"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="ntdll.dll" SIZE="708096" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="ntdll.dll" INTERNAL_NAME="ntdll.dll"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="ole32.dll" SIZE="1285120" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="OLE32.DLL" INTERNAL_NAME="OLE32.DLL"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="oleaut32.dll" SIZE="553472" INTERNAL_NAME="OLEAUT32.DLL"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="shell32.dll" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Windows Shell Common Dll"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="user32.dll" SIZE="577024" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Windows XP USER API Client DLL" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="user32" INTERNAL_NAME="user32"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="wininet.dll" SIZE="658432" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Internet Extensions for Win32" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="wininet.dll" INTERNAL_NAME="wininet.dll"

    MATCHING_FILE NAME="winsock.dll" SIZE="2864" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Windows Socket 16-Bit DLL" _FILENAME="WINSOCK.DLL" INTERNAL_NAME="WINSOCK"

In addition, the following error message appears in the event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Application Error
    Event Category: None

Anyone have a clue as to what this problem might be and how to fix it?
    I'm stumped!!!!

    Many thanks,

Well, I gave up trying to find the problem and used the Windows XP Restore function and picked a date well before the problem began and bingo, problem solved!!!

    Thanks,

    Rick
