Ok .. Guys Lets See How Good You Are ...

    Gots A ? - Found A Program Called : Mindsoft Improver 7.6 :
This Thing Checks Your Computer For Problems Then Changes Some Settings ..

When I Reboot The Computer After It Has Changed Settings ..
It Boots Like In 5-10 Sec!!! From A Cold Or Soft Restart Its

    Freaking Amazing !

Ok All Is Cool But The Nextime I Reboot Winxp..
    It Takes : 10-20 Seconds 3rd Time 30-40 Seconds
    Kinda Weird .. Anyway ..

    Weirder ...
Cause If I Run That Program And " Fix " The Problems Every Time I Reboot ..
It Reboots In That 5-10 Sec. Range Every Time !
    Very Nice Very Fast ..

But Its Like After I Reboot .. Winxp And Or Something Resets What The Program Did ..
And The Reboots Take Forever :(

    So ...

I Have Been Trying To Figure Out What - Mindsoft Improver 7.6 -
Changes To Make It Boot That Fast ...

Reg. Setting ? Driver Setting ? Boot Setting ? What ?

I Can Not Figure Out What It Changes To Make Windows Boot That Fast ...
I Have Used A Reg. Snap Shot Program To See If It Changes Something In The
    Reg.
It Seems To Change One Thing :p No Biggy Just The Prefech Setting ..
But After Reboot Its The Same... Setting And Has Not " Reset"
Um .. Goback Logs Doent Show It Changing Anything That I Can Tell.
Makes A Bunch Of *.Mut Files Then Dels Them ..
Anyway We Can Figure It Out ? Help ! Lol
Help Me Its Driving Me Crazy ! :)~

Or Were Post For Help ?

20 bux says it's messing with the prefetch..

    Wrong ...

I Have Checked That As I Said In The Org. Post.

And If It Does .. What Is It Doing ?
Cause I have Played With Other Tweaks That Have Changed The Prefech ...
And It NEVER made The Puter Boot In 5-10 secs !

So .. I would Have To Say : No 20$ For You !

that is pretty much the same behavior that is caused when you delete the prefetch constantly. XP automatically deletes old prefetch files so it really doesn't need to be done. But if you do do it constantly, then it will slow down like that. Instead of deleting only old ones, it's probably dumping all of the contents.

I will do some looking up on this software to confirm my suspicions. I will report my findings regardless.

    Thanks ...

    However ...

When I Goto The Prefech Dir. All The Files Are Still there !

So .. From What I Can Tell .. No .. It Does NOT Clean It Out.

But Thanks .. This Thing Makes My Computer Amazingly Faster Boot times.

And I wana Know Why ! lol And The reset thing.
    Is Driving Me Nuts ...

Sucks .. Having To Run It Every time :p

XP rebuilds the prefetch files in real time.

these tweaks as noted on snakefoots site are probably what this utility is performing. (http://snakefoot.fateback.com/tweak/winnt/tweak.html)

    19. Logical Prefetcher in WinXP Post Comment
Along with WinXP a new enhancement to the memory management was made. It is called the Logical Prefetcher and it can make boot time and application start time faster. The Logical Prefetcher records disk usage in certain scenarios(Bootup, Application Start), and when the same scenario reappear, it loads all the data needed for that scenario from disk to memory, before the data is requested.

On the WinXP Home- and Professional- edition both BootUp and Application is prefetched.
On the WinXP Server and beyond only BootUp is prefetched.

The behavior of the Prefetcher is controlled with this DWORD registry key :

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Control \Session Manager\ Memory Management \PrefetchParameters]
    EnablePrefetcher = 3 (Disabled = 0, Application = 1, BootUp = 2, Application AND BootUp = 3)
Note if using other values like 5 or 6 then it will either disable the prefetcher or only activate one of the prefetching types.

The recording of these scenarios is saved in *.pf files by the Task Scheduler in this directory (Deleting the contents will remove all scenarios until the applications are run again):

    C:\WinNT\Prefetch or C:\Windows\Prefetch

Note the above directory also contains a file Layout.ini, which is generated from the saved scenarios. The Layout.ini is used when doing a full defragmentation where frequently used files are aligned for faster loading. The Layout.ini is generated automaticly along with a partial defragmentation (dfrgntfs.exe) when the computer is idle (or within every 3rd day). To force this generation run this command (Will run for 1-10 min):
    rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
Note one can stop the automatic generation of the Layout.ini (Will become outdated if not updated manually), along with the partial defragmentation (dfrgntfs.exe), by setting this DWORD registry key:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software \Microsoft \Windows \OptimalLayout]
    EnableAutoLayout = 0 (Disabled = 0, Enabled = 1, Default = 1)
Note one can do a quick defrag according to the Layout.ini, and only optimize the boot- and application- files for faster startup.
    defrag c: -b
Note when enabling the prefetcher(Especially for applications) one is also enabling a service that monitors disk reads and memory usage. This can cause a downgrade in performance especially on low end machines with CPU slower than 800 Mhz and less than 512 MByte RAM, so in this situation it is recommeded to disable prefetch for applications.

    20. Defrag of files used at bootup in WinXP Post Comment
To help in getting a faster bootup WinXP makes it possible to organize the files used at bootup on the HDD, so the files are faster to read.

One can control this feature with this STRING value in registry :

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Dfrg \BootOptimizeFunction]
    Enable = "Y" (Enable = "Y", Disable = "N")

    Hmmmm ...

    Welp ...

That Was Nice Of You .. But Still.
Doent Seem Like What This Program IS Doing.

I Have Checked Prefech Settings Memory Setting In reg.
    And They Do not Change.

And Also Number Of Files In Prefech Dir. Is Same.

    Hmmm....
    Just Weird.

Um .. Kinda :p It Is Weird ..

But The Program Is Made buy a Non-Usa Company
    I Think ...

So a lot of the stuff shows as Spanish Or What Ever Lang. That Is :p

Come On Guys .. With All The "Test / Logging " Software Out There There Must Be A Way To Tell What Changes It Making!

Sigh .. However I Have Not Found One Yet That Shows.

#1 not sure what it's doing
#2 just forcing the unloading of dlls that have no loaded programs associated with them. Just clearing out wasted space.
#3 and #4 are useless on windowsXP
#5 not exactly sure what else it could be doing to optimize your CPU
#6 this one is what I suspected. It's messing with the prefetch. ;)
