I searched but only found 1 thread concerning this issue, but no solution.

This is on one of my self built desktops (Intel D845GVSR, Celeron, XP SP3, ect.)
I keep getting these errors in the form of an icon on my desktop that opens a text file. They keep adding up and I keep sending them to recycle bin. I've tried un-install/re-installing Java with the latest version with no joy. My uncle uses this machine and rarely does anything other than Yahoo Mail and Pogo games.
The icons are always listed the same other than the last 4 digits (numeric) in this sequence: 'hs_err_pidxxxx'.

What's going on here and what do I do now?
Also, this machine runs Malwarebytes and MSE antivirus (both up-to-date, scans = "no-infection")
Other than this Java issue the machine runs fine.
Should I be posting this thread in the malware section?

    Thanks for any help!
    Mike

I haven't figured out where the attachment button is yet so here is the latest error file as text, 'hs_err_pid3668'

I see that the Java version you were using was Update 26 . Try the uninstall, clean with Ccleaner and/or IObit ASC including registry/trash file cleanups . ASC may find potentially problematic leftovers that Ccleaner misses . Then download Sun Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 27 from
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4648

    See if that helps .

So why when I use the Control Panel Java icon and check for updates, it keeps telling me I have the latest? I'm running update 26. Is it broken?
Ooppps. I went into my add on and see that the console is incompatible with FF v6 so it is disabled. I suspect there might be a lot of FF users running an outdated version because the update mechanism is broken.

Yeah. FF FORCED me to upgrade to 6.0 WITHOUT my consent. I'm starting to like FF less .
I'm considering Nightly or Aurora . Couldn't be worse than 6.0, which I intentionally uninstalled just a few days ago to go back to a more stable version . BLEH !

Done. (Java 6. update 26 uninstalled / CC Cleaner registry scanned/fixed / Downloaded IObit ASC and it found 94 registry errors that CC Cleaner missed).
(Thanks for the ASC link FED UP! I'll install that on all my PC's now).
Installed Java 6. update 27 from Major Geeks per your link. (note... when I accessed the latest update available from the Java website, it list Java 6 update 26 being the latest update. I guess the site maintenance on Major Geeks surpasses even the software manufacturers ;) ).

As I posted "My uncle uses this machine ". I'm not sure at what point this error occurs when he's online, but he's back online right now playing Pogo, so we'll see what happens. If these error messages show up again I'll post the results back to this thread.

Not applicable to my particular thread subject because the machine I'm posting about runs only IE8.
But I have other machines running FF v6, and I get the same message, and as FED UP posted,
Me Too!!! I've used FF for years, and it seems like everytime a new version is produced, there are several issues that could have been iron-out better before release. JMO :(

This Java website, as well as the Java updater, are often behind in pushing updates out.

The official Java site (on the Oracle website) lists update 27: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-6u27-download-440425.html

However, the really latest Java version is 7: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-se-jre-7-download-432155.html

Cool ! Hope the fix works. Didn't know about Runtime 7 ! . With FF being as squirrelly as it is lately, I'd be nervous about installing 7. I really hope Mozilla gets back on the ball. I've been a very happy FF user for years, I suspect with the new reapid releases of FF, Nightly, and Aurora, they may have themselves spread too thin . I keep up with Nightly and Aurora on different semi-tech site, and see that even the wobbly FF 6.0 is more stable than Aurora, which even MOZILLA themselves claim is "not for the faint of heart", and nightly has plenty problems of its own. I rolled back to - I think it was 3.6. ?
just maybe a week ago for stability and the dang thing updates itself without asking ME first to 5.0 and now to 6.0 . Even the updating didn't work properly and it had to try like 5 times before it was successful . Come on, MOZILLA ! !!

You didn't forget to see what the setting was for updates, did you? ;)

I'm not sure what the default setting is but I always go right through the options not just for new installations but also upgrades (or more accurately in some cases downgrades) because I sometimes find the settings don't successfully transfer.

using FF7 and JRE 7 on xp sp3. Check for updates to FF via the browser whenever I see same listed on MG's front page. No issues to speak of, only add-on (extension) used on a regular basis is JavaQuick...
