Okay, failing that I once came across a Debian distribution that could be loaded to a separate drive and run without having to boot it. Anyone know where I can find it again?

This website has a lot of Linux programs. Over to the right of their web page is a list of the programs in order of popularity. Just click on the one you want and it will take you to a web page to download from. Good Luck

Thank you. Do you know of any distros that will recognise a SATA drive?

    Any current distro will.

There are many based on Debian that are LiveCDs too.

My guess is you are thinking of Ubuntu or Kubuntu.

PCLinuxOS is the only Distro that I had any luck with at all. It was simply to use and it had a great support group. I read some post on their forum and it seems that it does support SATA. You can visit there for more information, http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=58. Good Luck with your install.

I am interested but I don't see nothing. If you had an attachment it did not work. Can you repost?
