    Hello there-

First of all, thank you very much for being here. You helped me with an issue about a year ago.

I have just completed all of the RUN & READ ME FIRST PC Cleaning and haveattached the logs. (The Root Repeal link is not working - says bandwith exceeded - so that is missing.)

Here are my issues that have been happening for a few months now. I am just now finding time to deal with:

    1. System is slow

    2. MCAfee Security Center needs frequent verification. I will (at least once per week - probably more) get a pop-up that says I am not fully protected and that I need to go to the security center to fix. Once I am there I can reset, but it is as if something is disabling my protection.

    3. Having trouble unistalling programs.
Example 1: I tried to unstall Ad-Aware 2007 prior to doing the RUN & READ and recieved the following error:
"Error 1720: There is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support person or package vendor." Then I get a pop-up with "Fatal Error during installation"
    Example 2:
Smart Defrag. I unistalled this program, yet I am still getting a pop up every time I boot up that is asking if I want to update my Smart Defrag.

    4. In my control panel I have THREE Internet Options icons. You told me to go to a different section for that last time so I will do that - I just wanted to throw it out there in case it was of any relevance.

That's all I can think of at the moment...I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks so much-

    Megan

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

The "newfiles.txt" log in your MGLogs.zip is empty. Did you get an error message when you ran the program?

You need to put ComboFix where you were instructed to put it --> on your desktop, not here:
    C:\ComboFix.exe

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now make sure the contents of this folder...and then the entire folder is deleted:
    C:\\Program Files\\IObit

This does not appear to be a malware issue. But re-run both Combo ( from the desktop!) and double click the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file and be sure to watch for error messages! Tell me what happens.

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

Oh, sorry about that. I thought I did save it the desktop.

Just to be clear - do you want me to put Combo-Fix on desktop and THEN actually re-run it? And then do the rest of what you posted in your reply?

    Thanks so much...

Yes, put combofix on the desktop, do my fix. Then re-run Combo and then the getlogs.bat for MGTools.
    Attach both logs.

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

Thank you - OK so far:

-I have successful made the changes you request to the registry. I got a success message.

    -Saved ComboFix to my desktop

-I attempted to delete the contents of the IObit folder - and was able to delete everything but the most import part: IObit Smartdefrag.exe and taskdll.dll When I attempt to delete these I receive the following error message:

"Cannot delete IobitSamrtdefrag: Access is Denied.
Make sure that the disk is not full or write protected and that the fuile is not currently in use"

I have not gone further in the steps becasue I wanted to let you know that this could not be done...

    Thanks......

    OK:

Attached are the Combo FIx and MGTools logs.

I did recieve a few errors in the command prompt window while the MGTools was running...

The system cannot find the file C:\MGTools\ltime.exe.
The system cannot execute the specified program.
    ERROR: Class not registered.
THe system cannot execute the specified program.
    updating: runkeys.txt (188 bytes security) (deflated 82%)

    Running scan with ShowNew.Bat

    Then about 100 times:
The system cannot execute the specified program.

    Then:
    FInding copies of actxprxy.dll
...it found copies of 21 files all together

    Hope this helps!

Please try doing the fix that pertains to your system:
Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it and attach the new log.

    Thank you.

I extracted the HOME fix to my XP Media Center System 32 folder.

MG tools gave me similar errors (do you need to know exactly which ones or wuill the log be enough for you?) - attached is the log...

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

It didnt help. Let's try this:

Go to start / run / type "cmd" without quotes. In the command prompt window, enter the below commands and hit enter after each (the commands are in black bold print. Other text are just comments or explanations).

    cd C:\MGtools\
    ShowNew.bat

Tell me exactly what happens and attach the newfies log that will be produced.

Also go to start / run / type 'services.msc" without quotes and scroll down to Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service and make sure it is set to automatic.

    Hi there-

Sorry for the delay - I was away.

~Regarding the first step: very similar outcome unfortunately. Lot's of similar errors. Attached is the new log.

~WMI was set to manual so I changed it to automatic.

    Thanks again for your response!

I will await your next reply...

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

You need to tell me exactly what the error messages are....You need to copy and paste the contents of the command prompt window into a file and attach the file here. That way we can see exactly what messages are occurring. Some of the messages will scroll off the screen so you will need to scroll back to get ALL of them.

I also want to know what files are showing in the MGTools ...so open a command prompt again and input this:
    dir C:\MGtools > c:\filelist.txt

Attach that log.Now go to the MGTools folder and tell me what happens when you try to run SN64.bat

OK - I have done what you suggested and copied the logs here. Everything ran, but as you will see in the logs I did get some messages.

I am attaching logs in two posts...

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

FYI - as well - it might be a coincidence, but my IE has stopped working now. Every time I try to open it i get an error message:

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

And then gives me the option to send error report or debug...

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

Sorry for the delay....you somehow slipped past me. I need to consult on this issue. Try to figure out what is causing the problems with your logs.

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

You are way out of date with your version of SUPERAntiSpyware.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
Now run Malwarebytes and click the Update tab. Then click the Check for Updates button so you update to the current version of the program and database. Then run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.

In the meantime...lets remove a few temp files.
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\AC58.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\AC59.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\AC5A.tmp

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACBA.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACBB.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE4.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE5.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE6.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE7.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE8.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACE9.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACEA.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\ACEB.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\Acr6D.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\TEMP\Acr71.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET112.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET113.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET115.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET1C.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET41B.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET41C.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET41E.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET92C.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET92D.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SET92F.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET119.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET422.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET933.tmp

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now go to start / run and type:
    services.msc
Once that opens, scrolll down to Windows Management Instrumentation and tell me what this is set to. Startup type and Service status settings.

Now download the latest version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run the new MGTools.exe, once it is done, then run the C:\MGtools\SN64.bat by double clicking on it and attach the new logs for:
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. If you haven't already, please go to start / run and type:
    service.msc

Then scroll down to Windows Management Instrumentation and set the startup type to automatic and start the service.

Now tell me what issues you still have.

Great! Ok I started up the WMI, no problem.

Computer is running so much better now - thank you so much.

The only problem that I can still see is that in my Control Panel there are still 3 Internet Options icons. Very strange. One of them looks normal and the other 2 have the icon that you see when it is an unknown file. I can give you a screen shot if you like...

Everything else seems great. Again - thank you so much for your help with this. PC is running fabulously.

Re: Few Issues: McAfee needs constant verification / slow / trouble uninstalling prog

Not sure about the three icons. I assume you have tried deleting them. Perhaps you should post in the software section for assistance with that matter.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
