Anyone notice how many issues the new build of Firefox is having?

Alot of places don't load correctly...it won't install extensions, Flash is having huge issues, I'm tempted to get rid of and reverting back to 1.07 or 1.05. Seems more of a pest than a savior at this point.

    Wonder what went wrong.

Installed it yesterday, no broken extension or Flash problems here, and the memory leaks seem to have vanished. Bear in mind, if you go back to the older versions, you get the vulnerabilities found with them, as instead of patches you have to get new versions to fix them. 1.5.0.1 fixed a ton of holes recently found in FF, btw.

Hmm, Well seems you are the only lucky one, check out Mozillazine.org Lot of people are down on their luck with it including me.

Have you tried backing up your profile, and totally removing firefox, then re-installing firefox?

If every computer was exactly the same, I guess there would be little chance of issues on any release of any type. Seems some of those folks at that site you mentioned just flat didn't read some things they should have and brough the problems on themselves, but when one is click-happy during any install, that's the chance you take ;)

I do find it rather sad on another thread on that forum one user is bitching because his "Abe Vigoda Status" extension doesn't work with the new version

Bah, I think Firefox is over-rated anyway. Sorry you had problems.

I'm pretty sure yeah...I reformatted yesterday. And put 1.5 in and these issues started. But everything is updated and installed as far as media and everything so.

I don't know for sure if it's relevant but I had some issues similar to yours and found out it was my firewall. I run ZoneAlarm Pro and had to reduce some of the security features to get pages to load correctly.

I'm still getting the memory leak. Also the spellcheck extension is not compatible. It's too bad as I enjoyed FF 1.5.0 when I switched to it last month until my rig went to a crawl. I guess I'll wait some more for the leak fix.

Though, I HIGHLY recommend NOT to download the trunk build, Firefox has yet (at least for me) cause any "memory leaks".

I recommend checking to see if, Tools, Extensions, then clicking on the button "Find Updates". See if any extensions have updates.

I use to edit the .XPI files to make them work for my version of firefox, then I started using:

    http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/buildid/nightly.html

Which will "force" extensions to work on your version of firefox.

Works fine for me, had a new patch install yesterday or day before but quite stable. Some pages were having troubles opening but the latest patch seems to have addressed or at least reduced the frequency.

I downloaded it, tried it, hated it, went back to 1.0.7...ahhhh:cool:
I'll wait a few more months for them to work out the kinks in it.
Lesson learned and I should have stuck to what I usually do, or not do, is download the first version of anything with a new release or "fix"...
    ahhhh:cool::cool:

    No memory leaks
    No extension problems

I've NEVER had problems with Firefox that I didn't cause myself.

On a somewhat related topic, does anyone know what the mozilla corporation does to fund these projects?

Did you do any tweaks to avoid the memory leaks?
I just read about that yesterday in the other forum, some guy said 250MB of memory and I laughed but he told me to search "firefox memory leaks".
I didn't yet, but now that you're mentioning it.

    From http://fusion94.org/archives/2005/07/firefox_memory.html

1)Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
2)Right click any line to bring up a sub-menu
    3)Choose "new">"integer"
4)paste this into the dialogue that appears: browser.cache.memory.capacity
    5)Next click Okay
6)Specify the amount in kb (about 60000 should do) in the next dialogue that appears
    7)Restart Firefox and happy surfing.

Mozilla Corporation has developed a range of partnerships with organizations ranging from peers in the open source community, start-up companies that are building businesses based on Mozilla technologies and some of the world’s leading IT vendors, including IBM, Sun Microsystems and Red Hat.

And then comes some cooperation with Google as you probably know. Donations, may be some paid support as well.

Dont think a new Firefox have ever been worse than older one! Allways improvements and with 1.07 - > 1.5.0.1 they are very obvious. Faster rendering (10-30% in some cases Mozilla coder said) and even with memory leaks definitely handles many open tabs better than 1.07. Anyway, remember much require 1.5 now so be careful with extensions/bugs - most developers will assume you use latest, and believe or not, most bugfree version. Any extension mess must be solved by you.

Those who post a lot on Mozillazine are very good at separating real problems from trolls and such. If you could link to those posts from unlucky people we can see what it was about. When it comes to updating user is almost allways to blaim, lacking information or not so qualified user?, you pick...

Spellbound should work for 1.5 btw. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=351130 will not work for 1.07!

Well, forcing a ram-cache of 60mb is really no good if you have 512mb of ram since 60 is default size X 2. To save some memory, look for settings to disable the fast rewind/forward page feature and perhaps also disable prefetching. Cache can be 32mb, or less. If you use stuff like Tab Mix disable "Undo" - keeps pages in memory. Pixxing in the pants if there really is a leak but will lower general memory usage. If you use Adblock be sure to check out which version works best regarding ram, for me that is clearly new 0.6 Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1865&application=firefox I use a dev. build from today, new version out soon. Very sensitive extension when it comes to memory. One of those that can provoke 400-500mb numbers! http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=354828&highlight=memory+leak

I am having one problem with FF.
    It downloaded itself fine.
I am finding when I go to minimize, not close, a window, it disappears on the taskbar. But, if I minimize others, it is still there and if I reclick on it, it shows up again.

Any ideas why? Or what I can do?

    Thanks
    Gal

If you're going to keep using IE I would suggest downloading maxthon (from this site of course ; )...it's a nice IE shell.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but some people are installing an integrated IE tab. It's supposed to resolve the "force" extensions issue.

Thought you might find it useful if you're not already using it. I've heard a lot of good reviews about it.

It is pretty good but also on list of troublemakers http://www.squarefree.com/2006/02/04/memory-leak-progress/ Sadly you need to use "Trunk" = often most unstable Firefox version to get most fixes. Only a couple managed to get into 1.5.0.1 but as he says 1.5.0.2 will be out soon. He refer to a newly released Trunk tool which can dig out leaks - has increased useful bugreports.

You should read FAQ on top of this forum before installing Trunk or even Branch versions http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23 Trunk like Alpha/pre-beta versions - can be good or bad, just dont install blindly.
