    Running XP Home.
When I booted up computer this morning, I cann't connect to Firefox. IE is working.
I ran Adaware, Spybot, CCleaner, RegCleaner, Stinger, RAV, Panda, Microsoft Anti-Spyware. Adaware had a couple of minor things, rest came back clean.
Ran hijack, and it found over 100 hosts. My daughter had been downloading from Winmx. She will NOT be doing that any more. I ran Hoster and restored them. Still cannot connect to Firefox.
Could someone please check my hijack and let me know if there is something else in there?

Or any other ideas on what might be causing my problems?

    Thanks so much.

Yes, I did download that yesterday. When it wouldn't work this morning, I tried restoring my computer back to before yesterday, thinking maybe that was the problem. Still not working.

Trying to put in here the error report I receive. See if this helps.

Never mind. Doesn't work to get it in here.
    Is an exception error.

OK, I think the report is here now.

Maybe it isn't a spyware problem?

That's too small to read. There is no visible malware in your log so I'm not sure what you problem is.

Try having HJT fix the below to stop using the preloader and see if it helps.
    O4 - Global Startup: Firefox Preloader.lnk = C:\Program Files\FirefoxPreloader\FirefoxPreloader.exe

Otherwise, uninstall FireFox, reboot, and then reinstall.

did you try starting firefox in safe mode?

Thanks for moving the thread for me.

I did fix the 04 in Hijack.
I uninstalled Firefox, reinstalled the 1.0.7 version, but still no luck. I did try in safe mode, too, and still get the same error.

    What is the error?

actually, what I meant was.. did you try firefox safemode.. start. programs mozilla firefox ->mozilla firefox (safe mode)

I only know it was an exception error.

When I unstalled firefox, I got rid of the log. Now, with reinstalling it, and it did it again, I didn't save it. I know it said exception error.

When I try using it now, the page comes up, but just sits there, nothing, not even an error message.

Kodo, yes, I did try it in safe mode, too.

It's ok, thanks for trying. I'll just download opera or something else.

Had you happened to use firetune on your fox?

No, I don't think so. Never heard of firetune.

when you uninstalled it, did you remove all the firefox folders including your profile fodler (backup your bookmark.html file first). ?

What I did was a search for firefox, then deleted everything that was there after going to add/remove and uninstalling.

I didn't do any backups, if that file was there.

Yet another thing to try is this. Once all files have been removed. Also from the profile created within "%userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla" (with bookmarks backed up)

    Also, removing "c:\program files\Mozilla Firefox"

And searching the registry for :

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla

    and ( :) )

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org (if it exists).

    Delete these keys.

Now, either download the installer, or the zipped file.

Installer (Released on the 18th): http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....nk-fs/firefox-1.6a1.en-US.win32.installer.exe

    or

Zipped format (my own preference/same released date) : http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....-18-13-trunk-fs/firefox-1.6a1.en-US.win32.zip

Link to the actual "ftp" site: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-11-18-13-trunk-fs/

I lost track of problem is an XP exception error or Firefox - may be both? Anyway you should not mix profiles between 1.07 and 1.5, can break. Wait when millions upgrade to final 1.5 ;) Also never between a branch build and trunk build like the ones theefool linked to.

So http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder#For_Windows_2000_and_XP_users If you start Firefox like "Firefox.exe -p" you see its profile manager. For each you make you get a new folder under "C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\<Profile name>\" Where all your extentions go as well.

Most actively supported extentions have allready upgraded to be 1.5 compatible, but one of the reasons new profile is highly recommended is old extentions doesnt allways work on 1.5.

Mozbackup is easy to use http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ but as you can see in profile folder you can do it yourself. Only few files are important, rest can be restored from Mozilla Update. See definitions of all files here http://gemal.dk/mozilla/files.html Probably bookmarks.html is enough.

Firefoxpreloader seems to have the power to mess up Firefox installation https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=129464&release_id=303759 Try without. My guess is Preloader cause XP error not Firefox itself. Be sure it is compatible with 1.5 and how you should use it while uninstalling/installing.

Oh crap. Thanks for the catch!

I'm so use to useing nightlies and trunk builds.

Anyway, this may be a better solution:

    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5rc3/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%201.5rc3.exe

Myself, I prefer nightlies, until something breaks.

Been a hardcore FF(FB/PH) user since 0.3 (or so).

    Nice info!

Myself......I prefer to do the work myself, which is usually quicker to backup files via cmd.prompts.

Brings back my UNIX days. ;)

I want to thank both theefool and bambo for helping me get Firefox back.

    Here's what I did.
I uninstalled the Firefox I had downloaded. Ran the backup from the link bambo had.
Did a search and deleted what I could of what was left of Firefox. Some came back as I deleted them.
I then ran RegSeeker and CCleaner.
I rebooted and downloaded 1.5rc3 from the link theefool provided.

One problem I still have is when I installed, I received an error.

Error said Firefox could not install this item because of a failure in Chrome Registration. Please contact the author about this problem.

It seems to be running fine so far, maybe a little slower than usual, but I am not sure what to do about this error?

    Thanks again.

Well, I am feeling pretty good (needed it after yesterday)

The Chrome error had to do with my profile. After checking the support forum over at Firefox, I created a new profile, and things seem to work. I can get into yahoo games, etc.....which I couldn't before.

Even figured out myself how to transfer my bookmarks.

Thanks to one and all for the help.

    I have a problem! LOL

Please start a new thread. Hijacking someone elses only confuses the original poster and yourself. Thanks :)
