I was playing the hacking game (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=105711) and looked through google to get some of the answers and when I got to the end, firefox said it was updating so I just let it do it and now I cant get to any site on firefox at all...

First, download, install and run CCleaner. Afterwards, reboot and problem should be resolved.

What version are using? Have you defaulted all settings?

I dont understand why an update would break mozilla, but I found something about it on mozilla.org that didn't help either.

Look in Add/Remove Programs and uninstall, reboot and download a fresh copy. Install and let me know if it works and if it does not let me know exactly what it does.

    Mozilla Firefox 2.0

I uninstalled, restarted, downloaded from your link (the FL location), installed it express install and clicked finish and when it came up I got this:

    Code:
    Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.

        * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
              moments.

        * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
              connection.

        * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Firefox does recognise the router, because I can get into the router properties through firefox.

I don't see anything malicious, however I do see a possible problem. I notice you have NIS installed, did you purchase this? If not, uninstall and I will give you a free firewall & antivirus that is IMO a hundred times better and will use less resources.

First, shut down Norton completely and try it. If it doesnt work reboot into Safe Mode w/ Networking and see if it works.

If none of the above works I would try uninstalling NIS and then trying it. If you do not want to uninstall then I would recommend posting this in the Software Forum.

    I think you are right.

Look what I get when I try to open norton.

Download SymNRT, save to your desktop. Double click to run the program, follow the on screen insructions then reboot!

This should take care of your problem. This is one of the main reasons I do not like Norton anymore.

Thank you for the link, but I saw it post-uninstallation and the uninstallation of Norton fixed the problem..

I only had 30 days left on the trial, but I do have a full version somewhere around here.

Thank you so much for all of your help! :)

I had a feeling that was the problem, happy to hear it's fixed.
