Folder Layouts/Views Etc Won't Save!

I've got a bit of an annoying problem. The views of my folder such as Thumbnails, Icons, List view etc won't save. What I mean is, when I close the folder and re-open it, it's back to the original view and not what I chose.

I'm trying to sort my music folder into a 'list' view, but it keeps going back to 'Icons' view whenever I close the folder.

Also, the 'quick launch' buttons on the Taskbar disappear every time I restart my PC and I have to right click it, select Toolbars & then quick launch every time the PC reboots.

Go to the link below and scroll down to # 30 on the left-hand side (Windows XP Doesn't Save User Settings) and run it.

Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

Thanks for that, I saved it to desktop, ran it, clicked yes but I still have the same problem whenever I close the folder. It just reverts back to the 'Icons' view instead of staying in List view.

Open Windows Explorer, set it like you want to, then Click on Tools ->
Folder Options -> View tab -> and ensure the tick is checked next to
"Remember each folder's view settings" and ensure it is unticked next to
"Restore previous folder windows at logon" -> Click Apply -> Click OK

They were already ticked/unticked as they should be:

Still the same problem. I'm near positive it's not a malware issue as I've not had any malware for at least 6 months now.

    This is XP?

Go to Start > Run > and type regedit

Navigate to HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and make sure that on the right-hand side under Userinit it says C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

    AND NOT C:\WINDOWS\system32\update.exe

If it has update.exe at the end you need to right-click on Userinit and select Modify, remove update.exe and then enter userinit.exe, (be sure to include the comma).

Just to be safe in case you have problems create a Restore point or Backup the registry before you make any changes.
