Folding@Home running commentary thread

I'm down to running just two computers as of now so the gap will be closing quick. Don't know how long that will last, I'm on two different Folding teams and may jump to one or the other or just leave it like it is.

 

hehe. Seems to me this is good science, good research.
Everybody wins, really.

 

Put'em all here, mgrist. It's you I'm shooting for, and it will stink if you move on! What with Ironsnipe adding all those CPU's and me trying to do the same, where else are you going to find all this great drama?

 

Hey when this started I said I do it for fun, to make friends, waste time ETC.... Well all of a sudden I can't say this, I can't do that. " If you just want to chat go here" Well I went there and that got stopped also. It's still a neat site and I'll keep coming here but it isn't fun anymore. I figure as long as I'm Folding it's for a good cause so whether I have 50,000 or 1000 it's all good. I also realize things have got to kept in check when this many people get together on anything so I understand (most) of the moderating. Where I've moved is fun and it's still small enough to beable to goof around and shoot the breeze without stepping on toes. E-mail me or PM me, your contact list is very uninformative

 

I guess I saw a bit of the shutting down of threads, but didn't know about the rest. A real shame because this site/team has great potential. Whatever you decide to do, stay well, keep having fun, and keep on folding.

One other thing, how does one find a way to contact another in this site, other than through the forums? I have no IM SW installed on this CPU.

Does the person (people) running the MajorGeeks forums want to support the "Folding at Home" folders and keep this an informative and entertaining place to be? It seems to me that we're losing some people becuase of strict adherence to rules and regulations. Could there not be a little tolerance and a relaxation of some of the rules? The participation of the folks in the forums is one of the things that makes this a fun place to do folding. Without any activity the fun factor is reduced, excitiment wanes, and participation will drop. It's a shame becasue we have such good potential.

While I have not been a big contributor to this site, it loks to me like people have been asked not to have idle chatter in this section of the board, and then when they moved to another section, they had their thread locked.

More fun=value to the participants. I really enjoy this site and appreciate all the effort that has gone into it and I know that the folks running it can run it any way they want. The question is do they want to allow the folding thing to run it's course and die, or flourish and get into the top 100 (or better!) team rankings? I am hoping for the latter.

 

Basic, Indeed we did have idle chat here in the FOLDING forum,,,,we were indeed told by one of the moderatiors ,,what better place to talk in the lounge,,so people could see our sig's and maybe come and join us,,so to the lounge,,indeed we did,go,,and then we were not able to post there, the first thread we were talking on was closed,,,After what I thought to be a misunderstanding,,,I opend glenn version 3.0,,,and I guess that was not the place to chat either,its locked down,,,,so we are not able to use the lounge for idle chat,,while all else do???,I though the intention of the Lounge at MG was to have a place to kick back and have a bit of fun !!! but I have been proven wrong twice,,, ,seems a bit unfair,,,yes the wind has been taken from may sails,,,, But we still fold on for Stanford, at a place with less restrictions, Sadly Glenn

I will continue to visit MG its a great site,,but have to lighten thing up a bit !!

 

Glenn, Honestly. I feel no need to answer to you for anything. I closed G3 because I was attacked directly. Rather than let it continue on in that thread. You even posted to someone else a link to my "how it works" thread and now you post this? I find it contradictory to say the least.

Again, I will repeat. Do not question why we moderate a thread. I've been doing this for years and I know how message boards work. You've said it yourself that you're new to the message board thing.

The Folding forum is for folding discussion. The lounge is for OTHER discussions and we (as mods, admins) hold every right to remove, close or otherwise any thread herein, especially if someone is personally attacked. THAT kind of stuff doesn't jive well with me and your post above is not well recieved. You can post many topics in the lounge, Glenn, if one is closed for some reason, move on and start another. It's not that hard.

Closing a thread is the only way we really have of telling people that what is taking place in a thread is ultimately not acceptable. Your post is dangerously close to insulting and I think I've been more than accomodating, but when it doesn't benefit you, you don't like it. How ironic.

Kodo I do agree hoheartedly that any personal attacks are a necessity to take action !! I will go read the thread more closly. Quite franky, MY BAD after It was shut down I did not read through the whole thread !! and I apologize profusly. But I'm not the only one here with thoughs os a overpowering hand here and there when not necessary !! I have to say Im not alone with these feelings...Its not a dispute its a opinion. As for the childish antic , I also agree it does not belong !!! , as said I will continue to come here its a wonderfully educating place to be , as well as having peers that I would like to continue to touch bases with, That's including yourself ! we have had some wonderfull fun and some touching chats,Fondly, Glenn

 

Good. We're on the same page then.

All I ask is that you understand where I'm coming from. You know I don't go crazy closing posts unless it's necessary. And I KNOW you know that asking politely (read: reopening main folding thread) works alot better than griping.

I'm a very reasonable person, but I don't tolerate childish garbage.

 

Agreed Kodo,,Ok this is all behind us,,we can only go forward in life, and as we make this travel we learn, this whole sequence of events may be a learning lesson for all, Glenn
