For Corvette Lovers

For those into Corvettes, this might be of interest. I came across these UK magazine test times. I think they show what a showroom car can do. Since they were export cars, it's unlikely they were enhanced for magazine testing .

1968 L68 427 4 speed 0-60 6.1 seconds top speed 145 mph (Motor)
1984 TBI Automatic 0-60 7 seconds top speed 139 mph (Motor)
1984 TBI Automatic 0-60 7.2 seconds top speed 138 mph (Fast Lane)
1984 TBI Automatic 0-60 6.6 seconds top speed 142 mph (Autocar)
1986 TPI Stick 0-60 6 seconds top speed 151 mph (Autocar)
1989 ZR-1 (380 hp) 0-60 5.6 seconds (Autocar)
1992 LT1 Automatic 0-60 5.8 seconds top speed 162 mph (Performance Car)

The LT1 car did a 14.3 second 1/4 mile at 100 mph in wintery conditions. The ZR-1 beat the 1986 car in 30-70 mph acceleration 4.5 to 6.3 seconds.

 

It's always interesting when one reads road tests of older cars.
I remember the Corvette ZR-1 - it had performance similar to the Ferrari Testarossa (thanks to Lotus).

Crazy how much faster production cars have gotten. 14 second 1/4 miles used to be the realm of fast production cars, now they are in the 10 second range.

 

So true.
In South Africa almost 200 cars have a claimed or tested 0-100 Km/h (62.5 Mph) time of 5.0 seconds or less. And almost 50 manage 4.0 seconds or less.

I drive a Tesla P100D and a BMW K1300s motorcycle. 0-100 Km/h well under 3 seconds.
The car shows what technology can do. 4 doors, seats 5 adults with great sound system and flawless air conditioning. Auto driving on freeways is very good.
I am sure that GM will have an answer for their next generation Corvette.

 

I'm truly a bentley fan. Actually not the newer models but older models.

 

Compared to America the lack of pollution controls on the South African Ford 302 V8, showed what the engine could do.
