    Greetings,

First of all let me just say that after running through the entirety of the (READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide) it was helpful and caught a few minor things, such as an unknown toolbar malware, but did not solve my over all issue. I ran all the scan and came up with a few things that I got rid of, but I am still unable to download and install Microsoft updates. This has been going on now since 3/11/2010. I keep trying to install them and get a Code 800F0902 error. Also on playing games that once ran at about 40 FPS I am now only getting 12-15 FPS. I have included a Belarc system profile scan below. And can provide a HJT with request.

    Thanks!

Also, whenever I attempt to move files larger then 500 MBs from one drive to another the computer freezes up.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

But you did not finish. It you don't attach the requested logs, we cannot help you.

Based on the problems you have described, it does not even sound like you are having malware problems but we will not know for sure without seeing the logs.

Note: Your email address was removed for your own safety. You will get yourself spammed by posting an email address in any public forum. In addition, most forums ( like this one ) only reply in the forum where everyone can benefit from responses.

Here is the Malwarebytes, I am a bit unsure as to how to get the super anti-spyware ot the MGtools logs up here.

Please just follow the instructions and attach the logs. We do not want logs to be posted inline since it clutters up the threads, slows down page loading, and it also clogs up search engines. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Thank you for you patience. And if it isn't a malware issue is there anyway you could point me in the right direction?

Yes! Just attach the C:\MGlogs.zip file from MGtools so we can decide.

Note that Malwarebytes appears to have removed a DLL file for a game you play. You will need to restore that file from the quarantine.

Here is the last bit, it wasn't saved to my C drive so I had a bit of trouble finding it. And that DLL it removed was a game I had thought I had uninstalled from my computer, so it could have very well have been a virus.

Yes it was saved to your C drive. I can see it in the log you attach. It is always save to the root folder of the Windows boot drive. It is not saved anywhere else.

Based on your logs, you are not having malware problems. The only issue I see is that you ignore one of the first instructions in the READ & RUN ME about not having more than one antivirus program installed. You have all of the below installed:

    Microsoft Security Essentials
    Norton 360
    Norton Security Scan

And according to your logs, Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed are both still installed.

I suggest that you uninstall all of Norton and reboot. Then see how you PC is working. If still having problems, post in the Software Forum. If you have game issues/questions, post in the Gaming Forum.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I apologize, I was under the impression that I had fully uninstalled Norton several months ago. Thanks again for your time. Also, I am not sure if this matters but it seems after running those scans my computer no longer freezes when transfer large files. As for not being able to install Microsoft updates, do you have any recommendations as to where to go for that?

Could just be a coincedence or the general cleanup may have just helped. All that was removed by MBAM and SAS was some adware jumk.

First get rid of all of Norton and then see where things stand. Then if you still have a problem with Windows updates, post in the Software Forum.

I ran a paid version of Revo Uninstaller it does a great job of scrubbing the registry and getting all those files that the uninstaller left behind. I didn't have it when I first tried to uninstall it. I'll also run that as well just in case.

We use Revo all the time but only as the last resort. You should always use a Add/Remove programs first, and if that fails, see if the program you are trying to uninstall has its own uninstaller ( like Norton Uninstaller ) and then once these have failed, lean on an uninstall tool like Revo Uninstaller , Your Uninstaller! 2010 , Total Uninstall or similar.

Why are programs like Revo only used as a last resort?

For the reasons I already stated in my last message. Proper procedure is to uninstall via Add/Remove Programs first which attempts to use the programs own uninstall routine. And if that fails like it does for many protection programs, they have written their own special programs to uninstall all the services, files, folders and registry keys.
