   The Microsoft Security Essentials (Vista/Win7, XP) application is quite good, while I think it needs some tweaking of some areas, its getting good reviews and has a pretty good detection rate from one of the renouned test organisations in AV-Test in 98% detection rate and a good detection of rootkits, info here
