This topic has probably been beat to death on this site and I have read some of the articles and done some of the basic recommended items. But no matter what I do I can't get my Hard Drive free space to increase. My computer has been a little sluggish.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well ... you're not going to get any more free space unless you get a new HDD or delete some files

I've removed all unused programs and used Crap Cleaner and Find Junk Files to remove any unnecessary files. I use disk cleanup hourly to remove temp internet files. Any other suggestions?

Maybe there's no more hard drive to free up? You can't free up what isn't there

I use TreeSize Professional 3 (it's shareware) to find the biggest files on computers like this. People like the big pie charts. Pyrate meant you may have some old pics or other big files lurking around that you forgot about. Sounds like you are deleting tiny files. TreeSize Professional 3.

you mentioned your computer has been a bit sluggish. the first thought that comes to my head is spyware. you could download some spyware removal tools but first try defragmentting your harddrive.

    How big is your harddrive?

IRONMAN - I use spybot and Ad Adware daily. Processor is Pentium III 851 mHz with 192 meg RAM. I defragmented and there was only 14% soace to begin with and it said there should be at least 15% to defrag. I did anyway.

I probably need some more memory...or a new computer.

    Thanks all

How big is this hard drive? Do you use an anti-virus? I've lost several large chunks of hard drive space, to viruses. Also, consider using smaller installs of games, or removing those you don't play any longer.

I have Norton 2003. Is there anything within it that I could run to see if I have lost nay significant space to viruses? Hard drive is 9.5 GB.

probably your best solution would be to buy a bigger harddrive if you want more space.
There is only so much space a 9.5 GB can give you

    What OS are you using?

If XP or ME for that matter, System Restore can eat HD space up for breakfast... either if your PC is running ok apart from the space issue....

    1. Turn off System Restore reboot and enable system restore, this creates a new set of restore points, downside you will in a short space of time end up with the same space issue.

    or better option

    2. Adjust the amount of space % System Restore uses.. I generally only set system restore to 1% of total C: drive capacity and thats good for 5 or 6 restore points.

    3. you can also limit the amount of HD space that temporary internet files use as well.... Tools > Internet Options and under Temporary Internet Files click Settings and change the amount of disk space to use to say 10mb if your on broadband and 20mb if your on dialup.

    4. Virus Scan using an online scanner... eg. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

and finally as the others have mentioned, you may well need a second bigger HD.

Agree that a new HDD is probably the answer. Less than 10 gigs is small nowadays.

One last suggestion that I always recommend to make more space is available is to download and run these 3.
    Cleanup! http://www.stevengould.org/

    EmpTemp http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1575

    and CrapCleaner aka CCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191

Run Cleanup! first, with the volume full up for a laugh.

Then CC, then EmpTemp. All 3 are free, don't conflict with each other and should be run every day after net sessions. I have used all 3, every day, for years.

Run these daily no matter what size hard drive you buy. They also delete index.dat when you reboot. Bazza

Forgot to mention. Do a defrag after all the cleaning. If you haven't done a defrag regularly it may take a long time. Best thing is to start it up last thing at night and let it run overnight. Baz

PS: I use Norton Speeddisk almost every day to keep my drives compacted (contiguous is the big word they use). Baz
