Does anyone know of any free web based or other wiki that I can use for personal projects? :confused I want to be able to use it as a place to search for solutions, etc.

I'm not exactly clear about what you're asking.... Wikipedia is free and a great source for information of all types.....

Well, Wikipedia is based on the Wiki idea. An open database where everyone can add data and search it as well, via a browser, etc.

    Definition of a Wiki:
A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively.

I'm going to make a Wiki, say, just for troubleshooting personal computers. You can have a search bar to type in things to search for, or users can browse through titles, tabs, what have you. Kind of like Wikipedia, but for my use and whoever I want to let use it. But I will only have the ability to add to it, not everyone.

If I understand it right, you want to run your own knowledge base.

If true, you can use the same engine that Wikipedia uses - MediaWiki. Or try some other free tools, like KnowledgebasePublisher or Orbit FAQ.

    Check out Zulupad from http://www.gersic.com/zulupad/
Not available as a download from MG, unfrtunately. :(

A couple of threads are http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=134431
    and
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=143318

I use it for a database on various, and varied, subjects from Sierra Leone (a country where I worked) to Tips and Tricks, XP, and Vista info, etc.

One proviso, keep more than 1 copy (backup in different Folders) and make sure you click "Save" if it asks. It is a bit fussy and you could lose your hard work. I learned the hard way and I keep a copy in my external Hard drive each time I modify the original. Bazza

Let us know the plusses and minuses of the various suggestions if you can. ;)And what one you finally decide on. It will help us all, and increase our knowledge. Bazza

I sure will, but it will be awhile before I can really let anyone know the outcomes. It's a big project that I'll be working on. And a project that I've never done anything like before.
