Freezes for 2/3 seconds every Minute

    My PC freezes every minute for a couple of seconds at a time.
    The CPU is normally around 2% but jumps to 85% at the time of these freezes, its explore.exe that jumps up.
    this happens no mater what i'm doing and even when no programs are running.
    dont think its spyware (have run a few scans) and i just ran CCleaner.
    i'm using XP SP2.

    Sounds like you forsure have something running in the background that is causing this. Run this free program, http://www.processlibrary.com/processscan/ That should give you a good start. See what is going on and what is running in the background.

    ok tried that, everything came up safe, bar csrss.exe which is unknown.
    i googled it and it say it is a Microsoft windows file, but it could also be a virus?
    is there anyway i can tell?
