Can Freshdownload be used to manage a download from WinMx? Thanks, Mike.

When looking at FreshDownload's feature list it says
The WinMx uses the OpenNap protocol, which is an opensource version of the original napster protocol.

Therefore I believe it is not possible to use FreshDownload for accessing files on the WinMx P2P network.

Is this still possible, only thought it was the early days one could download through using http. Thought they had made changes to the fasttrak protocol so files are split into multiple segments from different sources along with queuing.

Different protocols are like different languages, one cannot get a program that only know FTP and HTTP to use a whole different protocol (Opennap in this case). You would have the same problem if someone asked you something in chineese and you had to answer back(And you only knew english).

At least this is what I believe until one can prove otherwise.

If you're looking to speed up the download time with WinMX, there's a bandwidth throttle within the program you can play with. Check it out and see if you can tweak it to get more juice out of it. Another thing you might wanna try is tweaking your connection... which I'm unsure of what kind of connection you have, but MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is a big one that can make a noticable difference. Post back and let us know something.

    Thanks, T-Rex:
I am familiar with the bandwidth throttle settings. My focus was not so much on speed (I have an old PC: 233Mhz/64RAM) but rather on resume supported downloads so that what I eventually obtain is uncorrupted. Also, I have a secondary connection to WinMx which I think prevents adjustment of MTU.

if you do the old http://127.0.0.1:1214 trick (obviusoly with the right ip) you still get the list for shared files, and if you arnt running kazaa to download it it starts at the beginning of the file and ends at the end. Not sure if you can split the file tho...

EDIT : ive just tried it, maybe it doesnt work :p i would imagine thought if you requested to make it think you were a kazaa server (i.e. a supernode) request it would still bring up the list ;) but lets not go there
