now as u can see its a fairly good computer , but im playing counterstrike 1.6 and nowadayz it can run on pretty much any computer but im getting like 20FPS .. i get more on my older computer , this is windows Vista but im not sure if that affects it.. is there something i have to set to get better fps or something?

i went to the Nvidia control panel and put it on Performance instead of quality and im getting around 30-45 fps which is alot better but im still wondering if im capable of more?

I had a similar problem with CS:S in Vista and a few other games as well. I did the same thing in my ATI control panel and it increased the fps quiet a lot, though I still suffered with choppiness and stuttering which I'd never really experienced before apart from the usual "lag" at times.

One thing you could try and what I did was to examine the sound card. Vista doesn't like 5.1 being enabled in certain older games that rely on opengl due to the new programming architecture in place for how it deals with sound. I dropped back (annoyingly) into stereo through control panel/sound and my fps went up dramatically and improved over XP.

    Could be worth a shot.
