gateway laptops - one seems dead?

i have two gateway laptops and the older one is without the grounding part on cord so i tried my other cord in it to see if it would work

the older one seems dead and wont do anything or seem to charge

so i wonder if its dead or if it just needs a new cord

will have to be a certain type for that certain gateway?

the laptop maybe needs a new power supply but how easy is that to fix?

 

It helps if you give the model numbers of both Gateways.
Not all cords/power adapters are swappable.
Also some laptops won't boot if the battery is dead. Once the battery is removed and power to the outlet/mains is supplied, the computer works.

 

the broken one is gateway mx6030

maybe 5 years old

As stated not all cords are interchangeable even if the laptop is form the same manufacturer, The power supply is the box in the middle of that cord form the wall plug to the laptop itself.

 

i think its the cord

these cords die at times?

power supply is in computer with fan i assume

some say it could be cmos battery is dead but i doubt it

the watts? the volts?

 

The volts should match and the amperes should be equal to or greater than what is on the current adapter.
