I'm adopting a Gateway 5694 computer from a friend who's moving away. Its a couple years old, but its a decent step up from my 7 year old machine running XP. I'd appreciate an opinion from you more knowledgeable sorts regarding my (free) video options.

The Gateway comes with ATI Radeon HD3200 integrated video, says it uses "shared video memory" and looks like its only 256 mb.

I could rob the card from my old machine (not original to it), a Geforce 9600GT with 512mb. I assume the card will outperform the integrated graphics, but I don't really know much at all about video cards.

    TIA for any advice

Yes toke is correct on this 512 MB video card is much better then the integrateded video cards the integrated cards tend too be out dated and much slower then a plug and play card.512 will make a big difference. And all so the integrated cards some times tend to go bad a lot quicker then the plug and play.
