I posted the problem in Drivers http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=219749

The Malware Removal logs are here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=219860

I read Recycle Bin's solution here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=190157 and ran WinSockFix (and yes, I did say "Thanks").

I still get the same error. I changed the Recovery Settings in Services for RPC, RPC Locator, and Wndows Audio so that they all say Restart the Service for First Failure, Second Failure, and Subsequent Failures. After Windows loads it takes a few minutes before I have audio but it's better than doing it manually every time.

I don't know if there's a connection but I'm also having a problem with Windows update. Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859), and Security Update for Windows XP (KB914389) both fail to download. I've tried several times, all the other Security Updates worked (some required 2 tries).

Additionally, Windows XP Service Pack SP3 won't install. I've tried 4 or 5 times in the past year and during installation the progress bar goes about 2/3 and then stops. Each time I had to do a hard reset from the tower, then the computer failed to boot and I had to use the Windows XP CD-Rom to repair the installation.

What brand and model is your computer? I vaguly remember some fixes needed to install SP3, I think.

My computer is custom built running XP SP2. If you need need specs, just tell me what you need.

In addition my computer stops communicating with the internet after 2-3 hours. I don't get a message that there's no network connection, it just stops transmitting and receiving data. If I disconnect the internet connection I get the no network connection message.

See this article for some steps to prepare for the XP-SP3 install: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717/. Needless to say, it is essential that you system is free of malware before attempting to install any service pack.

Sorry, I can't offer any help for a custom built computer.
